Gentleman - Autumn with rain and cold wind here in Switzerland is waiting behind the corner.. time to fire up the stove or the flight-simulator! My self, I lean toward the latter! Well, I heard something about an aircraft rally in Canada in September? I'm already here - at the airport "Prince Rupert" in the province of British Columbia! My test aircraft is an real oldie! A Douglas DC-2-115B "HB-ITI" from the former Swissair. By ill luck the aircraft suffered a total loss in February 1936 "A DC-2 operated by Swissair sustained substantial damage in a takeoff accident at Zürich-Dübendorf Airport, Switzerland. The airplane took off on a passenger flight to London but failed to become airborne. The airplane crossed a road at the end of the runway and came to rest in a field. PROBABLE CAUSE: Wrong propeller setting."Thanks to programmers and FSX, this aircraft is still flying.. I'm ready for departure heading toward Petersburg Borough, Alaska. It's a 90-minute flight in IFR The DC-2 flies! - nice and slow! going up to 8000ft.. .. over the waters of Chathams Sound! Soon after - sitting in a gray state parlour!! Northward.. .. with a splendid view! Must be somewhere in the region of Ketchikan.. Eye-popping... .. and wondering.. .. what a landscape! Near the Alaska-British Columbia border. Overhead the the Stikine Icecap! It is a large icefield straddled on the Alaska–British Columbia boundary in the Alaska Panhandle region. Radar-Vectors to PAPG (Petersburg James A. Airport) At least in VMC! Circling down.. .. to catch the Localizer for an LDA-DME approach..(LDA is an ILS that is not aligned with a runway.) Just made it to be underneath the clouds..! Quite a tricky approach! Well then.. made it. Petersburg James A. Johnson Airport is a state owned, public use airport located one nautical mile southeast of the central business district of Petersburg, a city in the Petersburg Census Area of the U.S. state of Alaska which has no road access to the outside world. Afterword to Jazzthom.. made you curious?... fire up your FSX! Cheers folks Urs

Urs,
Great screenies and comments as usual.
That DC-2 has a very nice cockpit lay out, I am wondering if it will work in P3D v3.
You did hear right regarding a rally next month, Allan should have the web sight running shortly for test flight and registration.
To let the cat out of the bag a little, the rally is in Canada and the state of Alaska. With Canada being a large area I am hoping we will continue the rally each year similar to the GAAR. You will need two aircraft for this years rally as three of the ten legs are from and to sea bases, therefore one land plane and one seaplane or flying boat. Those that choose to fly an amphibian such as a Catalina etc , may fly all ten legs with the one aircraft, pilots choice.
Stay tuned for up-dates.
Rob

The FS9 version ofthe DC-2 works fine in FSX!
One of my favourite racing series as a lad was the Can-Am unlimited Group 7 sports car series, which turned into the Bruce and Denny show as McLaren swept the series for several years running. So as an excuse to use a heading photo of Bruce's M6A from '67 (50 years on - there's method in all this sometimes) I've decided to shorten the name to the Can Am Air Rally or CAAR '17.
Cheers, Allan

Allan,
No problem with a name change for the rally but when looking for a rally name I was going to call it CAAR also but found another VA that holds a rally called CAAR so I selected BACAAR instead.
Can't remember the name of the other VA but will try to find it again.
Cheers Rob

P.S. To above post........
The other reason that I selected BACAAR for the rally name was my original thoughts of CAAR was to close to GAAR and some may become confused.
Up to you Allan.

It is Spring here Allan, a lovely 26-26C every day :-)
I tend toward BCAR. Bluegrass Canada America Rally, that area should last us a year or two for rallies
Cheers Rob
