Well, you wanted screen shots from X-Plane. A better shot of my RV-7A panel. RV-7A over Lake Coeur d'Alene Cessna passing over the Golden Gate Bridge, with San Franscisco in the background. On approach to Nimitz. The LSO kept calling for more power. I guess an F/A-18 doesn't fly to well at 70kts. On deck. Take off.

Tom Do we have permision to turn your FS flighttime gauge into an xplane gauge?
and two Can anyone do it?

I would think you would need to do one from scratch. Both my flight time gauge and my landing gauge have logic tests to make them work right that depend on reading flight condition values from the sim. It is not clear to me that those same values are available in X-Plane.
A big thing about all of my XML gauges for FS is the XML compiler built into FS. The XML langueage in FS is unique. I know there are books that deal generally with the XML language but they do not apply to the FS version and the FS version does not apply to any other compiler. You would have to write C code to make equivalent gauges.
Are there turboprops in X-Plane? If so are they flat-rated? That is a bothersome shortcoming of FS. I don't think it is a major thing but it reduces the realism.

That picture of the Golden Gate Bridge is dissapointing. That generic bridge looks nothing like the real one. FS has shown a realistic Golden Gate Bridge for many versions. It's an icon of the West Coast.

I can't install X-Plane.
I tried to run the install program from my wife's computer and install it on my computer. First it said it needed 73gb of storage! So I deleted all but the minimum of scenery. That was OK it said but then it wouldn't install over to my computer. I had already shared my x-plane folder.
Next I tried to access it over the network from my computer, but it said I didn't have permission and also that my computer didn't have enough system resources for that.
So X-Plane is on the shelf waiting for the day when I get a new computer. I decided I didn't want to buy and external DVD drive and a 500gb + external hard drive.

Tom, I agree the view of the Golden Gate Bridge is disappointing. In general, the detail of terrain in X-Plane is pretty good, but the detail of man-made things - bridges, dams, cities, etc. - are not very good. Las Vegas was a real disappointment, casinos were just blocks for helicoptor pads, and Hoover Dam looked more like a earthen dam, I almost missed it. Airports are probably accurate, they can follow the terrain, so there are no plateaus or pits. But there are no buildings or terminals on the airports. Maybe some of the other guys have found places with better scenery, but I haven't.

Allen, I just reinstalled my X Plane on my new computer. There are settings to up the airport environment detail in there, but I'm not sitting in front of that machine,so I can't tell you which tab to go to.
I also must heartily recommend going to the XPlane website and downloading whatever updates are there. In my case, it updated it to use the four core CPU, and made a tremendous difference.
AFter doing that, I started running up the settings, details, whatnot.... It is spectacular! I put the aliasing setting to 4x, land detail to maximums, tree-hugger, etc. and somewhere in there I found an airport detail and cranked that up. There are now fences, runway lights, even the distant light assemblies on approach.
I also saw a flock of birds, and made a turn to see if I could fly through them. Morbid curiosity, I guess, I wanted to see if it would kill my engine! I happened to be in chase view when I flew through, and you can even hear the birds. I didn't hit any.
X-Plane is now running as well as FS9. I haven't yet reinstalled FS9 on the new machine, so that's going to be a sweet deal too. Maybe today, as I miss work looking after my rows and rows of sick children.

Hi Flame, I recently updated to X-Plane 9.2 so I think I have the latest. My CPU is only a dual core machine, not likely to be upgraded soon.
My system is: Windows XP on a full sized tower with 3 case fans, Sapphire AM2 AMD 690G HDMI ATX AMD Motherboard, 4 GB DDR2 667 RAM, even though XP can only use 3.25 GB, Radeon HD 3850 512 MB 256-bit GDDR3 OCI Express 2.0 x 16 HDCP Ready CrossFire Supported Video Card, AMD Athlon 64 X2 4800+ Dual Core processor at 2.5 GHz, 650 W Power Supply.

A long time ago Flaming referred to the "sit in the tray" disk. That can be avoided by mounting a virtual disk. You'll need "Alcohol" or similar software that mounts a disk image to accomplish this. (I always got around "sit in the tray" disk requirements without any qualms since I know that I have a legal copy of each and every sim). Regarding controller sensitivity I have gone for zero augmentation lately. Some X-Plane authorities recommended this and I'm getting used to it. I've logged about 15 hours in a Bell helicopter by now and I'm finally able to land it in one piece. While I'm not ready for precision landings on an "H" yet I can get the sink rate right for an open field landing. Note that you ought to set up different assignment preferences for fixed wing and helicopters. I keep a copy of each "pref" and paste the appropriate one into the right folder before I launch the sim. The DC-3 is payware. There's quite a lot of freeware aircraft at www.x-plane.org. As for FS some of the freeware aircraft are as elaborate as most of the payware ones. The main thing I like about X-Plane is the insistence on elaborate flight dynamics modeling. X-planes stall and spin for the right reasons. Further, with version 9 it's getting quite pretty too but hardly as pretty as the best of the FSX world.

Thanks for reminding me, Hans, about the virtual CD mounting. I've been meaning to do that once I get settled on a computer, but I"ve changed rides several times, and it takes a while to get all the settings for all the different things set up. That's one I'd forgotten about.
I did some flying out here in the great midwest flatland heartland, and found not much to see outside of cities. The sim is flawless in this scenario. I wish there were a way to brighten it up some. Even with severe clear weather, it's overcast looking.

I just reinstalled my OS and X-Plane on my computer. It was an attempt to see if a native Windows 7 installation would make things run better. It might be a little better, but I haven't quantified it in any way. Meanwhile, I went through the setup again of X-Plane. It's a hassle to set the yoke buttons, levers, and all manually when I think it should have default settings that are 99% correct for a standard CH yoke and pedals. But I slog through and do it, and it's done. New updates on the X-Plane website! Woohoo! So I download the updates. It wiped my setup! Wiped every setting except the pedals! I have to reset all the buttons , levver, and all manually, when I think it should have default settings 99% ready to go. Grrrr. I was so mad I went to bed.

It's recommended to do the prefs over again whenever X-Plane is updated from one version to another. You probably went from 9.2x to 9.3x. The prefs were moved from "resources" to "output" and renamed. If you have accepted beta versions (check box) there will be issues to iron out. It might be a good idea to wait for final versions. Unlike FS, X-Plane is an ongoing project -- even between commersial releases.

Today, I finally got brave enough to try downloading some freeware aircraft and installing them. I must say the installation process is simple. Copy/paste.
Too bad not one of the aircraft is anywhere near realistic as far as handling goes. I'm very disappointed. X-plane supposedly has the superior physics but I've not ever seen an airplane so twitchy, so unrealistic. Actually, one of the aircraft handled reasonably, but nowhere near as good as a typical 2004 or FSX aircraft.
The default Cirrus Jet and the 172 are all I fly out of the box. They're pretty good. Now if I could get the Cirrus Jet into FSX, I'd probably ditch Xplane.
