Hi Bud I must be getting old ya think. your not Old as long can get out of bed after all you found the panel cfg, some can't do that. if you put that number in FS9 you would be looking at the tail, well almost I have a copy of XBOX demo, I load it to see how it works. installed the PBY and got the same problem. looking the beaver panel.cfg there was no [VIEWS] section. so I removed it from the PBY and reboot the sim and it look good here. SO MAKE A COPY OF THE PANEL.CFG and make like this one // This Panel.cfg file created by FS Panel Studio panel editor utility - www.fspanelstudio.com// Built Sunday, September 25, 2005 at 00:54 FSPS Build:16160 [Window Titles] Window00=Main Panel Window01=RADIO STACK Window02=FE_PANEL Window03=ELECTRICS Window04=FE SWITCH PANEL Window05=NAV STATION Window06=GPS Fixed Window30=FORWARD_LEFT Fixed Window31=FORWARD_RIGHT Fixed Window32=LEFT Fixed Window33=RIGHT Fixed Window34=REAR Fixed Window35=REAR_RIGHT Fixed Window36=REAR_LEFT //-------------------------------------------------------- [Window00] file=MAIN.bmp size_mm=1600 window_size_ratio=1.000 position=7 visible=1 ident=0 gauge00=Z_PBY5KM!WHISKEY_COMPASS, 1141,16,85,47

Sorry I did not get back sooner but was tied up yesterday. Yes it did work to a degree. When the plane loads it is looking straight down at my toes again. When I use the yoke pan switch the view snaps back to forward view that is now too high. The ctl+Q will bring the view back down again but whenever I change views it snaps back to the too high view. No happy medium. A work still in progress. Bud

Next Question trying to get FSX into some semblance of a decent flying operation I have run across a weird anomaly. Running under Win 7 and FSX using no real world weather with no wind on ILS final approach into KSEA , 34L crossing N47* 23.91’ / W122* 18.78’ I have repeatedly ran into real turbulence. This turbulence seems to happen between 1300 ft and 600 ft. I have crossed this point from North to South and from East to West and all the reverses. It always appears at that same spot To add to the mystery, I have run the same patterns with FSX on Win Vista Ultimate getting the same results to the same tests at the same location. I wonder if anyone else has seen this happening. Bud BGAN063

Hi Bud, Earlier today I flew an ILS approach to KSEA 34L in FSX and WinXP from 4500' down to a landing. I did not notice any turbulence. The date was 4/3/10, the time was in the afternoon. I'll try some more approaches soon. Allen

Thanks Allen for trying this dumb problem of mine. It is disturbing that no one else have these problems that I seem to be constantly falling into. For the same thing to be happening at the same place on all three of my platforms. XP, Vista Ultimate, Win 7 seems weird to me, no matter which aircraft that I try to fly. I checked and the Thermal visualization is and has been turned off on all three installations since day one. I know it is probably that I have made some stupid mistake somewhere along the line, but I sure don’t know what it could be. I wonder if ir could possibly be the copy of FSX that I have installed in all three platforms I am just about to trash FSX

I really don’t know if this is the right place for my plea for help. I have been battling FSX for several months to no avail. I have tried to follow the guide lines but am getting nowhere. Several reloads. My ATI Catalyst Control Panel always shows: Max Temp 74c, Activity 99%, Fan speed 84%, in flight. The CPU temp 48c, CPU Fan 680 RPM, Main memory load minimum.
Microsoft Flight Simulator X. with SP1 & SP2 (Loaded separately) Out of the box settings. No add-ons No overclocking Performance is ver-stunken FS98 was better Running Multiple times of the FSX Bench Mark “FSXMark07 w/FRAPS’ results in: FPS Min 14-15/ Max 21-28/ Average 17.23-17.323 Free Flight is marginally a bit better but still flashes and bad stuttering, jerking so bad that it is not flyable !!!

I used to have the stuttering problem on my older computer. That computer was an AMD 32 bit 2.2 ghz quad-core machine, 3 gigs RAM, a 256 mg NVidea card, and ran Vista. My new machine is an AMD 64 bit 2.5 quadcore, with 6 gigs of RAM, and a 512 mg Nvidea card, and started out as Vista, now W7 64 bit. The stuttering went away, and I never had the white flashes. I went from "almost good enough" to "oh, yeah!" No overclocking, or add-ons, just stock. If you are a patient, methodical person, you'll love this: www.simforums.com/forums/forum_posts.asp?TID=34141&PID=198187#198187This guy is the closest thing to "FSX Guru" that I know. I bookmarked the link, but my system is pretty smooth, so I actually haven't stepped through his guide yet. But it's methodical. If you follow the steps in order, you should end up with good quality performance from your hardware. But it'll take all day. Personally, off the top of my head, I'd tell you to set Windows graphics for "best performance" instead of "let windows decide", I turn off bloom, aircraft shadows (both on the ground and on itself), and match the graphics resolution to your monitor. I have a 1650 X 1050 so I make sure it's set to that. Also, if you set graphics to 16 bit instead of 32 bit, it'll double your frame rates. It will make lines in the sky though. Anti-aliasing will slow stuff down, but it looks so much better.... I've read that ATI cards are the best for everything but FSX, due to the way FSX handles, uh, stuff. Your card should do it great justice, though. Some bits I've read say that you should NOT set it to the lowest settings, but to middle settings on all the weather, traffic, etc. I would read through Nick's write-ups at the link. I'll bet his methodology will cure what ails ya.

hotsauce Thanks so much for your reply BUT “simforums.com/NickN” has been tried several times to no avail. I have tried to follow his instructions carefully but I guess I am missing something for I still have nothing. I have the Radeon 4890 card so I also followed “guru3d.com- Radeon HD 4980 Review and Tests”. Ran their tests and their benchmarks. No conclusive answers there. I cannot come anywhere near their numbers. They show graphs that at the lower the resolution the less stress on the video card. The charts show 62~FPS at 1024x720 and that the numbers fall off rapidly with higher resolutions. Of course I have tried all the various settings . I have 1920x1200 Samsung monitor but the numbers do not change much on any setting. In addition I have tried setting the Frame rate from 20 to unlimited… With sliders set to minimum @ 20 FPS it flies smoother but no scenery BAH !! As I said in my last post, watching the Windows Performance Monitor on my secondary monitor, my CPU and main memory are idling and it seems that the video card is trying to do all the work. You would think that the CPU would have to work a bit and raise its temperature a little during a flight. If my major bottleneck is the graphics card I will trash it and get something better, but what? I had thought that I had enough power to run FSX but I guess not. Just for kicks would you run the benchmarks “FSXMark07 w/FRAPS” and let me know your results for comparison?

Sure. I'll have to find it. One thing I read is that limited frames may be better than unlimited frames. Reasoning is that if the system only has to produce so many "pictures" per second, it should have more time to fill in more scenery, autogen, and stuff. Turning UP the frames can make fuzzies. It sounds like you're seeing the opposite of what I read.
I'm off to fing this FSXMark07 thingy, and do some reading.

Well, here's my results:
Frames, Time (ms), Min, Max, Avg 3927, 285506, 0, 52, 13.755
Although, I will say that the settings I am to use to run the test caused white flashes on the ground. I do not understand how the average ended up at 13.75 as I sat and watched the numbers. It was at 30 over the airports and into the upper 50s and 60s the rest of the way. I may need to run it again.
I ran it again, and this time my 4 yo daughter was panning around the outside of the airplane (DON"T TOUCH ANYTHING) during the minutes I was away in the kitchen making tea....
Frames, Time (ms), Min, Max, Avg 8960, 300000, 13, 44, 29.867
That's more like it, even though the test was messed with...

In exploring the computer with the ASUS PROBE II utility, I found that in the MCI tab the system IDs show all Win 32. When I purchased this machine it was running Win XP (32), since then I have upgraded to Win 7(64). If I were to upgrade the BIOS (hopefully 64 bit) could I solve some of my problems.?? As I said in previous posts, the onboard memory usage is almost nil. Runs from 1 – 2 gb of the 8gb installed while flying either FS9 or FSX. The CPU stays at ~47c , CPU usage shows al load of 40 – 60% for the combined load of both cores, CPU fan at idle 660 rpm so the system is not doing much work. Another anomaly is in looking at the PCI usage. I have on board 5 expansion slots. In order: 1. PCIEX1x1 Available 2. PCI1 In Use 3. PCI2 Available 4. PCIEX16x2 Available 5. PCI3 Available I have an Audio card installed into PCI! (In Use) OK The graphics card is installed into the PCIEX16x2 slot even though the utility shows “Available”. Wonder who is right ?? Could the BIOS Win 32 have this effect ??

I don't know anything about BIOS 32 versus 64. How about this: take the side off the case, and phsically check to make sure the card isn't clogged with dirt or debris. I had to go read about that card before understanding that 74 degrees is pretty hot! That alone can can cause a lot of weird glitching. Check the airflow and see if there's anything you can do to get it to run cooler. If you can control fanspeed, crank it up. Overheating a GPU can not only cause weird/bad behavior, but kill it as well. If none of that is an issue.... Have you checked your ATI drivers? That's a possibility. I would check that, and check the latest drivers. It could be that you need a driver update? I read somewhere yesterday, now I cannot find it, some guy that was running a high dollar graphics card and it could not compete with a $50 card, so he sold the expensive one.... I wouldn't go that route unless all other things are correct. I looked up my 9800gt, and hey, it's a pretty decent card. If all else fails, an NVidia GPU might show improvements. I found some updated drivers from NVidia and I'm going to test them on mine.
