Hello to the world of GAAR 2011! I maybe look dandified , but this GAAR 2011 is an jubilee edition! 10 years.. Congratulations! My this year GAAR faithful colleague is a De-Havilland DG.89A Dragon Rapide (G-AKIF) in livery 1967. She is a sheer beauty! Built in 1944 and still flying in Duxford UK in a modified livery. Well, I just made my Testflight out of the Kimberley's - and here we go! To all participants good luck.. Cheers from Switzerland Urs Hug

Departing PAKT Ketchikan AK for PANC Anchorage Alaska Passing Sitka AK Map of my planned route to Australia Short Final for Stevens Anchorage Intl 4 legs down, 10 to go! Great Circle mapper is at www.gcmap.com/It didn't select the route for me, but if you enter in all the airport codes, it will display it. Oops! Now I'm at UHMA Anadyr Russia, and there isn't any AVGAS available. I'm waiting for Captain Zlogg and Propellerversky to pick me up with an Antonov AN-12B and fly us to Australia. My co-pilot is busy removing the wings beyond the engines and getting the Beech ready for shipment.

Made it to Coolangatta, where it seems the rain is still falling. Left UK mid-November, pre-empting the GAAR. Back in time a bit here with the Avro Anson. A Roy Chadwick design. He later became renowned as the designer of the Lancaster. This aircraft, WD413, is on loan from Air Atlantique, based in Coventry, UK. The hiostory of the aircraft can be seen on their website. www.classicflightclub.com/aircraft?acName=Avro+Anson+T%2D21+G%2DVROE&acID=14Here's the real one:

Here I am at Coolangatta with my two planes. The Aircruiser(model by Stone) is on loan from the Air Museum in Tillamook, Oregon. I think it is the last flying Aircruiser. Uploaded with ImageShack.usI got the I-16 (model by CR-1 .Ltd) from a guy in trade for a bunch of Idaho potatoes (some mashed) that I had. He said that he had a deal with some outfit that was going to make Ethanol from them. Uploaded with ImageShack.us

Jean,
The beauty of asymmetric flight and a nice paint job on the BV 141. A pity the BV 141 was competing against the FW 190 for engines and so few were built.

I found that one on the beach of an island of the south (21°44'36"S 150°19'51"E). I Don't know how she came here, neither me ! BTW, to see at my left I have to fly on the back cause of the BMW engine... regards

A few from the test flight in the Twin Pin: Departing YKPU and positioning for the test run Following the pictureskew shores of Lake Argyle Reaching the end of the lake, the airfield is just before the mine, which you can see in the distance The Argyle Diamond Mine is the world's largest diamond producer by volume, and supplies 90% of all pink diamonds. (I believe Australia's motto is: If it doesn't move, dig it up!)

Venture Hawaii is returning again this year with at least a couple of aircraft so far. This year I'm flying VH-API, the Bristol 170 Mk.32 SuperFreighter assigned to our Australian Division. As such, it was pretty easy to get to Cooly, it was already just down the coast at Williamtown. Thankfully, our dispatchers in Australia also work minor miracles on a daily basis, so not only did they make sure I got onto the base with only a short stop at the gate for visitor passes that had already been prepared, but they got us a paying charter to Coolangatta. I arrived at the post with my copilot, Billy (he's from Texas like me) around 0700 local to prep the plane for the flight. By 0715, we were on the ramp. VH-API, named "Matilda" by our CEO when we got her on lease from British United Airlines a few months ago used to be G-ANWM, so there are still a few spots where our guys in the UK didn't remove the identifying marks. Additionally, we rented a bunch of our support equipment from BUA, so we didn't feel right painting over them. Exterior preflight complete, we opened up the nose and put the ramps in place to ready the plane for loading. After that, things got a bit busy, so I didn't get any pictures enroute or when we arrived, but I did receive this picture today from our mechanics who flew up to Cooly to prep the plane for the Race. Between you and me, I think they took a joy ride up to Cairns in the plane because I don't remember seeing those hills at Cooly. I'd like to take this opprotunity to thank our sponsors - General Motors Holden, AMPOL, and CalTex Oil. Dunno why competing oil companies here in Australia chose to both sponsor us, but they did, and apparently CalTex gave us a bit more money than AMPOL did.

Although not "rostered-in" yet (application sent already), I landed yesterday at sunset at Coolangattta with "Union Jack Dak" DC-3 N74589 in preparation of GAAR 2011. This particular DC-3 was the 'Cinderella' at the 75 year DC-3 anniverary-Ball at Oshkosh AirVenture in July 2010, after being pulled out of the bush in Georgia and made airworthy by a small team of Brits in only 7 weeks! Amidst 30 or so other shiny and immaculate DC-3's she looked weathered and worn, but proved then and there that with a little tender love and care, the DC-3 is immortal. This GAAR is flown with this Gooney as a tribute. cheers and good luck to all! Paul GAAR .... tbd... on base at Coolangatta, just befor sundown.
