Well Andrew it looks like you will be flying the only Heavy this year. I will be pushing my time just to fly one bird. I really wanted to fly the Lanc but I did a quick calculation with work I won't be able to do two birds. I will plan for next year.

Komrade Uhggg!
Where ever delegations of the Great Motherland arrive and depart it is in style and with a lot of noise to frighten you off. It is another masterpiece of psychological warfare developed in our workers Paradise. However - the impressive noise you experienced is nothing compared to the start up and take off of our indestructible AN-2 which is deprived of the title of "loudest piece of machinery on Earth" by the farts Babuschka produces when she tastes the brew of her intergallactic kettle.
Should you be interested you can lease both aircraft to blow holes in your locally produced cheese in order to speed up this process.

Here the pics I made training to reach YBMH : - Well... a rainy day @ 4500 feet - - and sometimes an island - - then the airport (currently the lights !) - - Yes, it seems to be the good one - - circuit... - - target time : 51.24 from YWIS... what is the stall speed of this bird ? - 51.34 mn. Not so bad... and a lot of people here... Who'll stop the rain ? -

Have you ever seen one like that? Smashing Melons with the head? Must be painful. I rather prefer to taste a "Bunda". My decision: I fly on.. .. a short back-track for Rwy14 (YCCA) .. ready for take off! Target: 2'18" Here I go.. 17:45 local time Up I go to 8500 ft. heading waypoint 1 .. on the way to "TAM VOR".. .. and "GAY NDB" with a magnificent view! .. a night-time approach for Rwy14 at YBUD Finally at the ramp. Flighttime 2'17" Good night.

What's up, guys! For my first (and hopefully not my last) participation in the GAAR, I am flying the good ol' DHC-2 Beaver! My buddy was born in Fairbanks, Alaska. There it underwent testing to make sure the performance and panel were OK, and to fix a problem with her sim startup. She's eager to begin the voyage. Final at Summit airport. That big mountain in the backround is Denali I believe. Somehow she was packed into a UPS MD-11 and flown to Sydney Climbing out of Anchorage at around 20,000 ft. Parked in Honolulu. My buddy has disembarked the MD-11 at Sydney. She will fly to the testing site, fly it, then hop its way to Coolangata. Fly-by of Uluru in the Australian sunset. Since that engine correction back at Kununurra it took a lot longer than I thought to fly from Argyle to Coolangata. Made it! Time for a well earned rest! Cheers from Alaska!

Well, here we go for my first leg. The chase plane took a bit to catch up after takeoff, so we didn't get anything on initial departure, but once in cruise, he settled in and got a couple of good pics. Once on the ground, I got e-mailed a couple of pics from spotters along the route (I knew that putting our race number would come in handy ). According to the spotter, this was taken a bit south of Toowoomba. From the cockpit, I saw the Toowoomba airfield off our left wing and took a quick picture. I landed at this field using this very airplane almost 2 years ago when we first setup shop in Australia. A bit further down the road, our chase plane took a pic of us with the Oakey base in the distance. Here's a pic from the chase plane of us approaching our last waypoint. A resident of Dalby got a pic of us just after our chase plane's pic. Due to clouds near Chinchilla, I switched to IFR (I Follow Roads and Railroads) and started our descent to get under the patchy cloud layer. Here we are on downwind as viewed by the chase plane. ...and as I saw in the cockpit. Finally, here we are shutdown off in the grass because there's just not enough room on the ramp for us. We hauled a bit of cargo up here with us for some of the area farmers, so we decided just to use the ramp to unload. The hatch on top that is open is the emergency exit, but since there's no Air Conditioner and it was +25*C by the time we got in, we got it open as soon as we could so that we wouldn't totally bake.
