Bluegrass Airlines has long been a great friend to DC-3 Airways and has never failed to offer DCA pilots a warm invitation to enter and enjoy every single Great Australian Air Race. We are now very pleased to announce that after a two year break the DC-3 Airways World Rally has finally returned. It is now our turn to again offer all the staff and members of Bluegrass Airlines a most warm invitation to join us in enjoying the DC-3 Airways World Rally 2008. The format is very much the same as it has always been, but to read all about it and to enter into the rally please visit us at www.dc3airways.com and click the WR2008 link on the top menu bar. We very much look forward to seeing you. Norm Hancock President DC-3 Airways. The DC-3 Airways World Rally has always been a challenging test of your piloting and navigation skills. Please join in with the other Bluegrass pilots who will be signing up. Bill

I remember the DC World Rally of a coupla years back and indeed is worthwhile for sure. Not something to be trifled with. I also remember the 'Hancock panel which was as worthwhile. You can count me in Norm, looking forward to another DC event that challenges the senses. Bring it on!!

Go get them and start practicing.

I downloaded the flights, installed them, and was going to do a practice flight of flight #1. I couldn't get the engines to run on the Cessna or the DC-3. I switched to a jet and the engines started just fine, then I switched back to the DC-3 and they shut down. Don't know what the problem is. I created a flight in FS9, installed the wx file that was in the download and flew the flight just fine.

I had the same problem and found the fuel was in the Aux. tanks(4 tank conversion ) and tank switches turned to mains which, were empty.

I had the same problem. I could get them to turn over, but they wouldn't fire. I checked to make sure the mixture was set correctly for the field altitude. (that wasn't the problem).
Then I noticed that the left and right main tanks were empty.
Problem solved.

Thanks guys. Three heads are better than one. I didn't think to look in the main fuel tanks.

Last time I flew the default DC - 3...was in 2007 Question is...1 What is the best DC3 downlaod? 2 Payware vs free 3 Which Panel is the best?

For freeware, you will find that we have a DC-3 in the hangar page that Tom Goodrick has "breathed on" to sort the flight dynamics.
If you want to get near the average point of all the Goonie pilots taking part, a bit of psychology might suggest that the "Beaumont and Bitzer" mods may be used by more pilots - Mark being a DCA member.
That's not to suggest that they are any better than Tom's, you could download them both and see which you prefer, it is meant to be fun after all.
The smallest BB mod is in dc3_bb3.zip on flightsim. This simply changes the dynamics of the default model to try to better follow the real thing - much the same as Tom has done with our download.
A more complete BB makeover is DC3_BB4.zip which contains a four tank modification ( the default has incorrectly got three tanks) and an IFR panel by Mark. just remember with this one that there is no "all tank" option, so fuel management needs to be remembered on longer flights.
As for panels, have a squint at any by Mark or Norm Hancock, they're all clear -it just depends on personal preference.
For payware of course, the one and only option is the MAA-SIM DC-3, which allows you the warm feeling of supporting a flying museum piece, so think of it as donationware rather than payware. It is also a cracking model and does not have the same repaint limitations as the default MS model. Again you can get IFR panels by Mark for this one. The built-in dynamics have already been sorted!
Just avoid the mistake I made before WR05, I took bits and pieces of FD update from different sources and ended up with a Frankenstein beast that was way too fast and hardly used any fuel for the first three legs. So keep any download intact for the flight dynamics, though you could add the four tank mod to the BGA DC-3 if you like - look for dc3_4tk.zip and dc3_4mx.zip.

my first DC-3 World Rally so I use the Defauld FS9 DC-3 with the four tank mod. and supplied flight and aircraft Gfg. file, and a Norm Hancock panel. have already flown the first five flights, and have really learned more already about navigation with Adf, and Vor. Flight #5 is a dandy!!!

I threw that question in to see if there were any other options. I flew the default DC with Norm's panel when they did the last rally. This time I downloaded a fresh copy, from the DC Airways site, of the DC 3 and Norm's updated in 2007 panel in one package of a mere 11mb. Then of course there's the MAAM version, which I knew of but dont have. I flew the first leg and it works fine, I remember the panel too! Think I will start from the start on the day, but will have a look about various sectors to get my eye in. cheers
