Hi Rattler, good to have you and the Beverley around. I hope you don't suffer from vertigo - it's a long way up to that flight deck! Some nice footage of the last surviving Bev here:- www.youtube.com/watch?v=kIRlZmiLmZs

As far as I know, all 444000 rivets of her is at the Fort Paull Coastal Battery, Hull, having moved there when the Beverley Army Museum closed. See N53* 42' 48.37" W000* 13' 43.91" on GoogleEarth and www.fortpaull.com/home.aspx

Thanks for that johnl. Good to see she's still with us, but in dire need of some sort of hangar. The RAF had one at their museum at Hendon, but neglected her so badly that she became unsafe and was scrapped. Should hang their heads in shame.

Good to see a lot of the familar crowd in the rally. I decided to play with a slower airframe this year and had to dead reckon a few times during this leg because I didn't get enough altitude on climb out which affected my Leg 2 timing on the final jaunt from YTOC to YBRN. Still don't think it was too shabby. Biggest adjustment is still learning to remember the Grumman is a lot slower and sluggish compared to the Corsair and the P51 I've been playing with the last couple of rallies. Well at least this year I am admiring the scenery.

I hadn't heard of the Beverly before. That is one HUGE carrier for her time. The only one I am familiar with is the Bristol Freighter which we have here at the museum in Winnipeg. Not even close to being as big. Too bad that there appears to be only one left from the video. Truly sad how such a piece of historical times can be neglected until they are all gone.

With the clamshell door removed, the Beverley was a very useful airdropper. The record for a single item was 29000lbs of sheet steel on a heavy stress platform supported by 8 66ft parachutes. Must have been an interesting trimwheel exercise as that lot slid aft and fell out!
I remember the Bristol Freighter well. Silver City Airways used to operate them out of Southampton, but moved to Hurn as they used to bog down on wet grass (EGHI had no hard surfaces before 1970).

Well, that's a wrap for me, GAAR 2014 is done. Had a grand time, and plan on doing it again next year. Many thanks to Andrew for a wonderful event, even with all the rain :-)

Well, that's me done for this 2014. Thanks to Andrew for another great rally; already looking forward to next year. Thanks also to Bluegrass, Mutley's Hangar, and all the others who make this so good.
I think this time a note on the aircraft is called for. The Varsity is a Rick Piper creation for FS9, which translates across with no problem, although it seems more limiting in crosswinds in FSX. The Beverley was created for FS2002 by Kevin Kelleher, whose father, also called Kevin, was a captain on them. He produced a mod for FS9, and the aircraft itself translates well to FSX. Since the original gauges were from FS98 they would not translate across. However, a bit of cut-and-paste of Varsity instruments seems to work.
Now to think of another British aircraft for GAAR 2015.

Don, I presume you mean the original from the 1920's, if there is such a thing available. The "Whistling Wheelbarrow" can't enter: 4 x RR Darts. Good crew transport though, even if carrying freight was stretching it a bit. So far, since my first GAAR in 2009 I've managed to stay British. Valetta, Dove, Anson, Dragon Rapide, Pembroke, and this year Varsity and Beverley. Got to keep the old flag flying.
