Well then, here you see the "DH80 - My Hildergarde" in the repair and assembling hangar at Perth Jandakot Airport. Soon she will be airborn again! Some notes about this aircraft "VH-UQO" 1933 Built by De Havilland Aircraft Co Ltd at Stag Lane Edgeware, Middlesex. 120hp DH Gipsy III and shipped in unerected form to Australia to De Havilland Aircraft Pty Ltd, Sydney NSW. 1934 Change of ownership: C. James Melrose, Adelaide SA. Named "My Hildergarde" 1934 Melrose departed Parafield on a record flight around Australian coastline, via Sydney, Brisbane, Townsville, Wyndham, Broome, Carnarvon. Returned to Parafield in a record time of 5 days 11 hours 1934 Departed Darwin for Croydon, London flown solo by Jimmy Melrose, to take part in the MacRobertson Air Race from London to Melbourne. 1934 Departed Mildenhall in MacRobertson Air Race to Melbourne, race #16. Melrose was the youngest competitor and flew solo. Seventh race aircraft to reach Melbourne, finished 3rd in Handicap Section with a prize of £1,000 1935 Change of ownership: Harry F. Broadbent, Sydney NSW. Named Dabs III 1936 Previous owner Jimmy Melrose was in England to take delivery of his new Heston Phoenix VH-AJM and was pleased to see his old Puss Moth at Gravesend. He was presented with the original propeller, which he carried back to Australia in the Phoenix, and the propeller was mounted on the sitting room wall of his home in Adelaide. 1936 Struck-off Australian Register Charles James (Jimmy) Melrose (13 September 1913 – 5 July 1936) was an Australian aviator who held a number of flying records, was the youngest and only solo flier to finish the Melbourne (Macrobertson) Centenary Air Race in 1934. He flew a DH80A Puss Moth named 'My Hildergarde' to England just after his 21st birthday in order to compete in the race, reaching Croydon in just over 8 days. He died in July 1936, at the age of 22, when his new high-wing monoplane, a Heston Phoenix, broke up in turbulence over South Melton, Victoria on a charter flight from Darwin to Melbourne. His unfortunate passenger was Lt Col Alexander George Campbell, DSO and mining manager. Two days later, over one hundred thousand people lined the streets of Melbourne to pay their last respects to this fine young flier.

VH-UQO - flies again in the open Australian air!
After a little while in the maintenance hangar at Perth Jandakot airport, my DH.80A Puss Moth and GAAR 2014-companion, befalls a great day - she goes back into the air! The cockpit-interior stayed original - only the bare necessities is fitted in.. (of course, I have a mobile GPS with me, maybe Andrew is to be up to some tricks..) One snapper, and the de Havilland Gipsy III engine is going well, as well the other parts of the aircraft! "ready for departure, holding position rwy 06L" 20KIAS, tail lifts, 50KIAS, aircraft flies.. ... immediately reduce to 2100RPM and climb with ~60KIAS into the sky. Look, Perth-skyline on my left! Steering to the south and looking out for a suitable spot for doing some airwork: here it is - maybe a golf course.. Let's go! pulling up into stall-speed with high power and balanced rudder. Speed indicator nearly zero, the Puss Moth starts shaking.. ..and tips over - idle power and recovery.. Ha, the old aircraft stands firm! OK, one more time! How's it hanging? We put a new writing tape on the side, as a memento of the remarkable air race "London to Melbourne in 1934". Time for an "air-promenade" and turning back home over the vicinity of Lake Banksiadle. What a huge forrest! Smooth cruising with 2050RPM and 80KIAS. Cleared to enter JP-CTR and airport insight! On the PAPI rwy24R - in a breakneck speed, there is another aircraft at the back of my neck! Cleared to land! a bit a long landing.. vacating at the end! Back on the ramp in one piece, and holding a certificate of airworthiness in my hand - fresh from the press! Legally go GAAR 2014!!

Hi Urs!
Nice to meet you again ( and all the other participants)
Great work with your new bird!!!!!
As my Flying boxcar had some trouble with the starbord engine its time for an overhaul and I have arranged another C-119 for this years Rallye: the "Naughty Girl" , a C-119 operated by Heather, who I met after the last years GAAR and I could talk her into the idea to let me fly her bird for this years GAAR.....I just made a few modifications and within the next few days you can see my work too.... so lets look forward!

The one that won't be coming. The planned Beverley with it's Varsity backup over a snowy Cambridgeshire. My new Windows 8 doesn't like FS9, and there isn't a Bev in FSX. I'll work on it and maybe next year there will be.
