I follow Rattler! To be honest, I lurked to Andrews NOTAM with the final figures, namely, the "Target times".
Everything was ready, FSX at its peak, flightplans roughly made, tracks and radials sized - but just this little numbers were missing to calculate my correct groundspeed. But now, all is ready, papers on board - and here my little story of Leg#1 GAAR 2014
Wollongong Airport - what a perfect day to start.. 23°C, calm wind from the south. My little DH.80A Puss Moth is fueled up and ready to go..
So am I.
On my way to RWY 16. I'm curious about the next 271 nautical miles ahead of me!
With a slight delay of 5 minutes, 9.40pm Zulu, I open the throttle to 2400 RPM, releasing the breakes..
..and upthrusting I go! Goodbye Wollongong, see you in a month time!
Climbing up to 4000ft, which is also my cruising altitude. Rather hilly country south of the field..
In the region of "Sanctuary Point and Jervis Bay" - I'm having flashbacks to last year GAAR!!
Hello down there!
It's time to set up my approach for a "touch and go" at YMER.
Very well, final active RWY 21 at YMER
.. boing - and off I go again!
Back on my 4000 feet, southbound to the first corner.
Whew! what a hairpin curve! Back to heading 314°, but this time with tailwind. Reduce RPM's for the benefit of my old engine!
"Mount Imlay" and company.. on my way to "Polo Flat".
I hope not for a mousetrap! I can't go higher, not to speak of going lower..
I made it after all! The clouds has past. Just a few miles away from my goal!
What serene landscape.. turning into a left downwind for RWY 18
Yep! Airfield and runway insight, turning final RWY 18
Shortly over the fence.., a bit pressed for time.
Here I am. Timecheck.. what a pleasant surprise: 43 seconds behind target!
I thought so..! Another boisterous GAAR-party underway..
Unfortunately I have to move on! Not a minute's rest, not even think of a drink!! Cheers
