leg 3 just unload some fuel barrels for all the "small airctrafts" and some cargo for the GAAR people in Balranald and back to the cockpit... ready to startup engine 1 startup take off,...hope to see you again, one day I couldn't resist to make a shortcut to Mildura airport on the banks of the Murray River and so close on my way... I enjoy this years GAAR so much....its the new cockpit, the perfect performance of the C-119 and the close contact to Urs in his adventurous plane with only basics and his curegous flights... waypoint #1 near the Darling- and Murray River junction.... downwind to YPCE ,....seems to be a vasteland ,...a real "outback" touchdown and a PERFECT timing,.... 0,01 difference .... wow as I mentioned above: I love this years GAAR.....seems to be just one BBQ,...lol... hey Urs: this time its up to me to deliver the wine.... cheers! and lets take the old Landrover to explore the outback,...hmm!?!? (its a 109, pickup series 2 and in good shape...)

An approach in a crosswind to a wet sandy runway. Broken Hill And from Outside.. Luckily we have an extension for the fuel hose aboard. it's a bit tight in there.. The Dragmaster from the front. So ugly it's beautiful. I'm at Tibooburra now, and I've just read that we cannot buy alcohol in Bourke. Don't worry, I'm buying out the stock here, and will have about a tonne of booze aboard for the stopover in Bourke.

Andrew, why the early start? raining as well. Tibooburra. At Bourke, and parked on the grass, to keep the apron clear. Good job it's a soft-field undercarriage, The large cooler from Urs is full, and "The Beverley Bar" is open for business.

My first GAAR. Can you believe it! I've been flying with this outfit off and on for almost 10 years, and this is my first one! So, here we go... Lined up at Merimbula. Who put that bridge there? Next came Cape Howe, Then onto Polo Flats. Sent ALOT of time dodging clouds... enroute to Polo Flats. Turned final and landed 103.87 minutes from Wollongong. My target was 102.23, so I'm happy with it.

Taking measures for Leg#4.. Well known region, but NOT well known weather! After studying the weather information, the issue was clear.. borrowing an umbrella und flying on a low altitude.. All set to leave, owning 128 liters of fuel. Farwell with friendly applause.. .. and in a spray I leave the little ramp. .. a present while taking off: 13kts sidewind from the left.. kinda of right rudder to give! Going up to 2500ft and will stay there.. overcast sky at ~2700ft And the rain beats on my roof.. the "Silvercity Hwy" below, like a given line. Menindee and the dry lakes are far afield to my right. Since a time I'm tuned to YBHI Multicom 126.70.. and listen carefully. Hear ye, hear ye! there is another aircraft on a two mile final Rwy 23. With the actual wind, I prefer Rwy 14 for landing. The airport is not controlled, so I can do what I want. Basta! .. righthand downwind Rwy14 .. and grande finale! Touch down at 0542 Zulu. Somebody should weed this runway!! Obligatory fuel stop and obligatory coffee-time! No worries Andrew, they accept my VISA-Card!! Back on duty, taxiing to Rwy23.. non stop raining today! .. "all stations, VH-UQO is taking off on Rwy 23".. answer from elsewhere? - No, good - here I go! .. over the field and sortly after back on my 2500ft eastbound. Comfortable tailwind with 5kts but still sidewind and an angle of more then 10 degrees to track! .. the great emptiness. A bit more than an hour later, turning towards the airfield of YWCA and Rwy21 The earth has me again! After my FTime-Check, I have noticed that I'm one small minute too early - bad luck! Ha, I got hold of a dry place.. Great party here, but no fuel available.. eh?

Had a good break here for last few days while the crew were doing the engine change - I do like this place and earned the break after the long transit (8,500nm) from Canada. Going to leave the guys here while we do the GAAR. First engine run was predictably smoky but ok and no leaks. and the flight test and shake down went just fine, so now sorting out fuel load for tomorrow, 1st Feb, when we set off on the first leg. Just in time, but any beer left by rattler and co will be a bit warm by the time I get to Balnarald and beyond. DH

I managed to get a ride back to Woolongong, to get the Vickers Funbus started. Don't worry; the co-pilot and two engineers are staying with the Bev at Bourke. Dave, do you think we wouldn't have a cooler aboard? Plenty of beer, and the Bev will be one of the last to leave Bourke. Now for the Varsity. Off Woolongong. Touch and go at Merimbula. Have to remember that the gear isn't "down and welded".

starting up for leg 4 bad weather but not cold....sort of sad departure after a ride to Urs' friends yesterday.... but GAAR has to continue spray of rain and very concentrated... taking off to new adventures I'll be back some sunny day... bad sight but just in the mood to leave and concentrate to the instruments monotonous sound of the engines...don't know where the sky starts and the land ends.... let's have our mandatory stopover... splash and spray Urs in front of me, just leaving,...see you soon guy! fueling up and adding some lubricant for the engines protection... some GAAR collegues still on taxiways as we take off to Wilcannia in better mood as we know Urs ahead and just let Broken Hill behind us... we follow the Barrier Highway to Wilcannia....an easy job todays target in sight.... still heavy rain hey Urs, nice to see you sober and dry....
