I did shopping here, some camping stuff for the next remote airfields on the route. All is stored in this wooden box - so Thomas, would you be so kind to put this box into your huge aircraft and bring it along? Thank you! What is expected for Leg#5? Probably aloneness, as I fly more than three hours over vast land! Hope for cooler air on 4500ft - effective temperature here 35°C I leave YWCA with 168lt of fuel board, some emercency equipment and a picnic hamper!! Rwy 09 - on take off roll - I need quite a distance until I reach my lift-off speed.. Turning for heading of 311° - a direct line to Cameron Corner. Vast land, as far as the eye can see ! Grit your teeth and get to it! - Why does it always happen to me? Half way to Cameron Corner - Junction Silvercity Hwy and Kayrunnera Rd. I make good progress.. 10kts tailwind, able reduce to 2200 RPM Just in case! After 2:18 hours of flying time, I arrive the Three-Country Point! Here it is, nice to be back!.. I was here in November 2000 by a 4x4 on the way from Birdsville down to Tibooburra! Endlessly rows of fiery red sandridges.. "For mile after mile the plain stretched away in front of them, and even a small object on the horizon - a low line of purple hills, a clump of gums round a waterhole - became a great goal to be reached because it was new, because it was something on which to fix the mind in so much uneventful space" (Burke and Wills expedition by Moorehead) Inbound to the final leg Rwy 15 On ground again - after a long 3h14min flight. Are my sleepy eyes deceiving me? .. a BBQ night to be called for? What a coincidence!! Cameron Corner in November 2000 Tibooburra in November 2000 - Yep, Thom, I show you that place!

leg 5 Urs box on board, all systems go, 36C, lets leave this hot spot and get some cool air from the trip.... vaste land but cool air in the cockpit from the fans nothing but the shadow of my aircraft .....no troubles are welcome out here.... and if: our cargo room has space enough for cool beverages and some hot meals,....but don't think of a crash and another "Phoenix flight" after a while of monotonous sound and a few bottles of minerale water later we arrive at wp 1 Cameron Corner turning back east and hey, look there......two collegues in theyr Barons.....on my right wing.......where the hell do they come from? ? seems to be a good idea to fly together as they aim for Tibooburra as well,....and here we are..... its a little busy here with the three of us AND a schedule.....don't want to miss my target time, so full speed approach just after the two.... full flaps, full brakes,......just did it..... brakes are singing..... and smoking so we come really close to the target time,....just missed 0,13 ;-) its nice to have some friends here.... and hey, Urs, I bring your box..... compare the size.... its really a flying boxcar....... parking position at this airstrip means again some 36 degrees or more.....lets find Urs and the shade here's your box if you need it, otherwise I take it for sure..... c'mon let's have a beer.... seems to be sandy too, not only hot, just the best spot for a new adventure......and another BBQ,....... BBG-GAAR come on rattler, there is enough space for your huge bird, so we have a double huge birds dance here......

Well, a battle with the bunyips again, but we managed to get round. Here is the varsity at Arbury. Late afternoon sun on polished aluminium. It doesn't get much better.

Passing YMIA Mildora NSW Lake Victoria After making the turn at Waypoint 1 the SW corner of New South Wales, we pass Lake Victoria again. Downwind for RW 24 at thingycarie Touching down at YPCE thingycarie NSW Aircraft is the Beechcraft L=23D Seminole (Twin Bonanza E-50) Now I'm off to the Telegraph Hotel. I'm told that a local rancher is hosting a dinner cruise on a nearby lake.

Well, I knew yesterday was too good. The crosswind at thingycarie was close to limits, and it took several tries before we were safely airborne. Then we had overheat lights on both engines.. A couple of pictures taken by people on the ground. A quick return as you can see. Both engines were checked and, apart from a bit of a smell, nothing amiss. I think those blasted bunyips had nested in the cowlings overnight, and we were burning straw and gum leaves. Anyway, we made it to Wilcannia, so the Varsity is still in the rally. By the way, this wasn't progammed in; the sim just did it on its own. Doncha love 'em?

Whew! what a smoky campfire - do they burn rubber? - After the briefest of rest here in Tibooburra - with some partys, some drinks of choice and heroic tales.. (Jazzthom's landing here, was an outstanding achievement) - what a rain last night - and what an early wake-up call this morning. My tent is wet, my sleeping bag is wet - everything is wet - and I caught a bad cold.. (cough, cough!) - hope not that the airplanes covering is too wet! Nevertheless and once again, duty calls! The maintenance crew is still refueling and meanwhile I have received the last weather report for Leg#6 - the whole thing looks fishy. At least I can laugh! To make one's farewells, off the blocks at time 20.25pm Zulu or 0525 hrs local time - on the way to Rwy 15 Becoming airborn and initially going up to to 2500 feet AMSL - making my decision up there.. A shaky depature with a dancing turn and slip indicator, and.. .. with bleak outlooks and headwind! At 2500 feet, black clouds just above. I stay on this altitude as the land is flat and no "cumulus granitus".. The rain creates new lakes - for a short while.. Not much to see, at least ground contact.. 2hrs20' after I left Tibooburra, I reach waypoint #1. Nearby route number 71 the "Mitchell Hwy". In some areas, a very deserted highway!! Inbound to the field YBKE for an overhead.. .. and lefthand downwind approach Rwy 18 Quite a turbulent approach and short final.. .. and quite a dynamic landing!! While taxiing in to the small apron.. .. I become aware of two people waving at me, in the meaning to park alongside! Eh? aviation authority ramp check or what? Nope.. two friendly GAAR-officials surveying the sense of well-being.. kind! Never let it be said that ... thank you rattler1 - Oh, I just see that you have had a urgency on board, glad you made it!

Well, that worked. I think with the rain, the bunyips stayed in their burrows. No sign today, and a straightforward run to Bourke. "Welcome to Bourke. Park behind the Beverley." OK I'm going to park this thing, and there'd better be some beer left in the Beverley Bar. If not, one co-pilot is going to be in BIG trouble.
