Cheers Urs Hug

There has been little activity in the forum for awhile now. Maybe some news about the GAAR will pick things up again.

(sigh) I haven't been flying much of late. There was no DC-3 Airways rally in 2014 either.

same concerns here , sight is falling in disarray an I have not the skills to help. Do not like the fact as Allen noted that DC-3 Airways has all so ignored there Rally , always a chance to ring out the DC-3 before the GAAR. The capitalist have taken a spiral. THE HANDY WORK OF THE INFAMOUS CPT. ZLOG KGB COW DROPPERS?

For a variety of reason which I won't bore you with, the effort to set up and run a full scale GAAR is going to be problematic over the next few months. However any suggestions for an event that could fill the gap for this year would be appreciated. I will see what we can set up in the short term.

We could fly one of the Australian Division Charter flights. Just brainstorming.

In the bush pilot section , there is the tough man series flights. #3 short fields in north west Idaho and #4 for float planes along Alaska's south coast. A chance to fly STOL types at there limits.

Gentlemen, what about some flights along the western WA coast northbound? Starting in Geraldton via Sharkbay, Carnarvon,Exmouth, Karratha, Port Hedland, Broome and finally Kununurra. Easy and short legs. Cheers Urs Hug

It did dawn on me that we could re-run one of the previous GAAR routes - such as 2007 or 2011. That would simplify the front end work, as it has already been done by others! I would aim to spread the dates out a bit more to give time for pirep processing at weekends and probably aim for a March run period.
ps The fact that there is a link to an extinct Urs website on the 2007 event has in no way coloured my thoughts! Definitely leaning towards the 2007 rerun though. It will take me long enough to update the files that exist with simple date changes as it is.

Wow!! I think GAAR 2007 was my first GAAR. Sounds good to me. If you could raise the cow droppers too, that would be great.

A retake of an old rally would be very interesting. Like you Allen it was one of my first rallies and it would be fun to see how I have improved over the years. The hardest thing I think is getting it set up for FSX which wasn't around then and what I think a lot of us are now running. It was so long ago I can't remember whether I flew the Corsair or the C46 commando in that one.I know back that far I hadn't yet started flying the Lancaster so I would stick to what I think I originally took down there Sure would be fun.

Well, I did a search on gaar 2007 and found the following: --As I said, this is my first time in a real GAAR (2009). I recently flew GAAR 2007 for practice and I've flown some flings on the other board.-- So it will be interesting to fly 2007 for real.

For me GAAR 2013 was my first, so a revisit of an older rally would still be new.
