Hmm, did not spot that. I think we can bring that down to 3,500' feet this year as we're island hopping - and to cover the sort of old bus I like too.
I'll have the first files up and linked by the morning. Some simplification for speed and author learning curve is still causing a headache or three.

Nice work on the GAAR 15 guys. Just a quick question if someone can answer. When flying the GAAR legs is there a set cruise altitude or is it up to the pilot to decide ? Also with submitting times for the legs where do you start and stop the timer, would it be from brakes release for your take-off run till full stop on your landing run at the destination runway or are taxiing times taken into account. Just a dumb old airplane driver here, cant find anything relating to those two issues. Cheers

To robau. You will find the answer in the Instruction-files coming with. There are different wind levels and you can choose the one you like, so altitude is up to you. But think of the MSA (Minimum sector altitude) and MEF (minimum elevation altitude). Cheers

Thanks uhug, but I am not talking about the test flight, I am talking about when it comes to actually flying the listed legs of the GAAR. Cheers

Never a daft question when it comes to basics. If you use Tom's timer it records the sim time from passing 30 knots on take-off to when you slow below 30 knots on the landing. One thing the rules say that has to be borne in mind "The use of external clocks, watches, etc, is prohibited. All timers must be internal to the flight simulator." This is because in past years we have had people come up with the weirdest arguments about time. By the way we are crossing a time zone - so use UTC if you just subtract take-off time from landing time. Tom's timer takes care of that. If you save a flight midway and restart Tom's timer will restart from zero. This is insuperable as the sim briefly goes to 0 knots when you start a flight from a midair point. Only one of these flights involves a long leg so that should not be an issue. So effectively it is runway to runway time. Altitudes and routes are at the pilot's discretion. Any missed reference to a date in 2007 is superceded by the dates on the front page of the GAAR. I know there is still some work to do with flight information and links to local websites for airports.

Nice to see this finally all come together. I will be away Feb and Mar but I'll make sure to check in on the results.

Just a heads up, when selection a plane to fly, note that the distance from Horn Island to Gove (flt. 9) is 336.9 NM without any place to refuel. I don't think my old Aernocker will make it. Allan, I know you are still working on it, but I can't remember how to load the weather files. A little remedial may be in order. G. Square, don't know when you are leaving in Feb, you could make the flights and submit them in advance, if Allan agrees.

I also stuffed up with the test flight by using a to modern aircraft, so if you read this Allan just disregard the registration email that I sent. I will re-fly the test flight using my Fairchild C-119. Rob

All the day start files are purely to set up the same weather for everyone and should go into the folder for Flightsim (or X) Files which I think is nearly always in Documents. There are no flight plans included with the flights. They will start you off at the airfield for the first flight of each day, either at the end of the active runway or on a parking location. As the flight time is only from runway to runway any taxying time is not counted. So it does not matter if some airfields have ramps in FSX but not in FS9.
That over water long leg is a pain for older planes. Remember you can add ferry tanks up the maximum weight of the aircraft for that leg. The way to do that is to look in the aircraft.cfg file and find the rows for the fuel tanks.
They follow the line: [fuel] Then you can increase the fuel tankage in us gallons by the amount of weight (6lbs per gallon) that can bring you up to the maximum permissible weight for the aircraft. The simplest solution would be to get the navigator to hitch a lift on one of the DC-3s that always turn up and add up to 30 gallons of fuel (180 lbs) between the available fuel tanks, or as a separate tank at 0,0,0. Check out the C172 folder aircraft.cfg file for a fuller explanation of each line in the file.
In the old days DH60 Gypsy Moths took off on record breaking flights from the UK to Oz with the front passenger space filled with extra fuel tankage.
Pireps can be submitted at any time ahead of due dates. I will try to get the progress updated before the next flight leg is due to be completed but make no guarantees.

I am very pleased with your decision, folks!
sorry but my internet connection was down many days, so I try to keep online and take place with the new/old GAAR
some questions please:
what happend to Andrew? are there official websites with downloads as the other GAARs how about pireps and flying times? can we "just download" from the old 07? IS IT POSSIBLE TO FLY THE NEW OLD GAAR 2007/2015 IN MARCH !?! ( as I am always busy in work in Feb. ) who is responsible for this event and will collect all the flight times? or is this just a remake of one of the old ones and we meet here and compare times? will there be an official GAAR forum?
sorry for boring you with all these things, but I am really addicted by these GAARs and look forward to try my new old bird a C117 super DC3 instead of my usual boxcars....
see you soon!
Thom
