Not sure if this is the best place for this, but FS9 has stopped working - don't know if it is because of a windows update (I have Win 7 64 bit) or if disk 4 has gone bad. So I've been flying FSX. My question is has anyone tried Win 10 yet and does it work with FSX. I've been thinking about updating to Win 10. Allen

I am in there with you ,except my FSX stopped working so I have went back to FS9 and still on windows 7. I have two sets of FS9 and one stopped and I feel it was because it was so scratched up , the one that loaded I fear will be going soon as 4 scenery file failed to load. Looks like we are going to have to update. Good luck !
UPDATE , loaded Windows 10 ; results were awful ! could not access or load any internet sights , FS9 or FSX would not work , could not get E-mail or information from Xfinity. Lucky I stumbled around and found the restore to Windows 7 , Windows 10 must be set up to work with APPS an higher power drive, an memory , I do not have.

As I recall there has never been a free Windows version before. The company is promoting it with vigour. Makes one wonder what has happened to cause this change of heart, a sudden outburst of generosity? I don't have an answer but there are nasty suspicious people telling me that the scheme is a giant come on. When there are teeming hoards relying on W10, that favorite company of ours will gently start to bill us for essential updates and this practice will eventually become a regular billing for using the service. No more freebies. Not my idea mind you, just a tale. Take care out there suckers, errr, computer enthusiasts.

I had problems with FS programs when I first downloaded Windows 10. Then I right clicked on the FS shortcut Icons, and then clicked on properties. Click on the compatibilities tab then tell it to run in windows 7 or XP mode. This solved the problems. FS programs are older now and this is the best way to run them. I saw this on another forum that I monitor. I now like 10 almost as good as 7 and XP. Like all changes it takes some getting used to. I do not like the picture menu you get by clicking on the start icon but by right clicking on the start icon , I get a menu that I like.
Good luck, Bob BGAN005

Good input, Bob Did you set up a Microsoft account or a local account? If you did a local account how did you set it up? Allen

I think you mean to get the free W10. My 3 computers ( 1 32 bit, 2 64 bit) were registered with Microsoft because of W7. I got a notification off the web from Microsoft that I could download W10 for free which I did. Over time I installed W10 in all three computers. After a major crash of my big laptop (my fault), I went to the W10 Microsoft web site and downloaded it again. I also downloaded it to a memory stick. I do have a Microsoft account but it was not used directly for this. Does this answer your question Allen?

Thanks Bob, Not quite, I need to give some more info. I have my desk top and an Asus notebook, both with Win 7. I don' t remember setting up an account but maybe that just happened with Win 7. I went to the web site with my notebook and downloaded the free Win 10. It installed OK, asked for my email address and a password, which I entered. When I start the notebook I have to enter the password to get to the desktop. So I think I have a Microsoft account. Is that how it worked with you? It's not a big deal, but after a while I forgot my password (I know, don't forget the password), was locked out of my notebook and had a heck of a time getting it reset. I had to go online with my desktop with Microsoft chat for help. I was wondering if a local account would eliminate the password hassle. I just want a Win 10 desktop, I don't need a "smart phone" desktop (I don't have a smart phone). Allen

Thanks to bob's input, I will try downloading Windows 10 again , sort of liked FSX compared to FS9. Side note , wife said I needed a "smart phone" took me 2 hours to figure out how to answer the darned thing! It uses up battery like no tomorrow, and minutes and data .....

Hi guys, I just had another chat with Microsoft Win 10 support. My question was: If I use the same account for my notebook and desktop and if I forget my password and I don't have a smart phone, how can I reset my password. The answer: you can't. The problem is you have to log onto Microsoft support to change your password, but if you can't log on to your computer (s) ..... Can't even get to a flash drive. So I'll have to set up a different account on my desktop. And hide the password where I can find it. If anyone has any ideas let me know. Allen

I don't know how to recover passwords for the computer. There might be software on CNET.com or other type sites that might help. I use a password on all my computers since my cat found out that laptop keyboards are warm.
I use a piece of software called Roboform to save my passwords under a master password. I also have an Excel spreadsheet that can generate a printout that I use to put new ones in until I can update the Excel file.

I have not yet updated to Win 10 yet but probably will soon. In the meantime I have another problem. I have a older desktop with Win 10 that I'm setting up to run FSX (installed from DVD). I added some planes from my hanger and ran FSX. It ran slow and all of my added planes were "painted" OK. When I tried to install FSX SP-2 (after installing SP-1) FSX said the onboard graphics would not support SP-2. I found a graphics card that would work with the desktop and installed it. Then SP-2 installed and FSX ran Ok BUT now my added planes would not "paint". The planes would load and fly OK but are unpainted. It looks like FSX is not seeing the texture file. I have changed the texture files for extended .bmp to windows .bmp, checked permissions, compatibility all to no avail. So I'm at a loss to figure out what is wrong. Has anyone had a problem like this?

You might want to make sure DX-10 isn't checked. I've seen that happen on my aircraft, at least some of them.
