I also hope that Allan is well and just on holidays basking in the Bahama's sunshine or something.
Not sure if we will have a GAAR for 2018 as I have been away from home a lot at present and will be in the coming months also.
Just have to play it by ear so to speak.

It may be that the workload/interest is the issue. Getting the pirep system running again may help but overall the interest is down. Judging by their forums, many older VAs are experiencing the same thing. These sites have nice resources but there is "nobody home" so visitors move on to more active sites. All the VA interest is in flying heavies yet there is a good community of GA flyers. Online flying is popular and the sites that promote it seem to have a higher level of activity. Again it gets back to the workload/interest, however, BGA has options the last of which, I would hope, would be to close the hangar doors. After all, BGA is a good site.

It seems as if people don't want to fly the pistons or the earlier jets like the early DC8s and Caravelles. They want the new computerized stuff. So it seems that the sim guys are doing that. Have forced myself to stomach thru some Air Accident series on TV (too bad they use actors instead of pilots). But apparently they miss things that we had to watch out for. That causes a lot of the accidents. One guy was way off the localizer because he wasn't watching and assumed the auto pilot was following the localizer. Another, they tune in the wrong VOR without identifying it. Another they pilot not flying raised the flaps on takeoff instead if the gear. The pilot flying never caught it. etc. We called it flying with your head up your ,mmmm, you know. lr.

I agree with the jet flying, I enjoy flying the PMDG B737-800 myself as realistically as I can or MJ's C-47, both fantastic sim aircraft.
Presently I am using P3D v3.4, but only for the next few hours as I am deleting it from my system and installing X-plane 11. P3D has been a pain in the ass for the past 4 months since a Microsoft update back then infected the sim and made it virtually unusable with CTD, to this day. Lockheed Martin and Microsoft are obviously not talking as nothing has changed and all the forum administrators can say is "it will be fixed on the next Microsoft update", so obviously these forum Gods have know idea either. If this was your new car with as many bugs you would be very angree and jumping up and down in a big way, I did on the P3 forum asking for information on a fix, non was forthcoming and ended up with a permanent ban on the forum, really great PR work by the administrators. You can imagine the frustration when you look at the 18 pages of complaints regarding this problem on the forum
My other beef with P3 , I purchased v3 pro just one year ago $200, then a few months back they bring out the 64 bit v4, if you wish to upgrade to the new version, another $200, it just appears to be buy, buy, buy, no little freebies like XP11.
I have drifted a little from the original subject of the post and for those that enjoy their P3, please continue to do so, for each his own.
Back on subject, if Bluegrass were to continue it is in desperate need of a major upgrade to start with or start afresh entirely and I am sure that non of us expect Allan to undertake that task by himself and you would need a team of two or three computer guru's to do same. Unfortunately I am not one of them, my comp knowledge ends at the go, stop button.
The GAAR is obviously our most popular event although that may be getting a little long in the tooth also. If our hangar doors are closing the only way that I could see it continuing is for another VA such as DC-3 Airways to take over the GAAR.
Maybe soon Allan could post a note on the forum regarding direction of Bluegrass, I just hope as we all do that Allan is well and this is not sickness related.
I guess at this stage we will just have to wait and see.
Cheers Rob

I'd like to hear your opinions of X-plane when you have used it- and, how is the default scenery and a/c available? Yep, it's sure too bad about Bluegrass. Wish I knew more about computer stuff.
Anyhow, here,"The Pearl of the West" (guadalajara- if this is the "pearl" i'd hate to see the garbage pit). it is clear, excellent vis, lioght wind, and 25 minutes ago it was up to 62*F. Evenings- when the sun is behind a high hill it is a pleasure to sit out on the front porch with a drink! lr.

Work has been the issue getting in my way for the last few weeks. If I cannot take my own laptop with me I am stuck as the works machine is severely restricted for security reasons. Our IT keep adding extra layers of awkwardness, at this rate they will only be happy when the machines are utterly unusable for any purpose. Luckily they employ me for my engineering know-how rather than my web editing skills.
Meantime I have now got a new laptop of my own - the old one has been seriously slowing down of late, so the last week has been tied up transferring stuff over.
Another VA was kind enough to run the GAAR one year, but a fundamental failure of understanding of our approach to the event caused problems. I still hear from folk who think the GAAR is run along the lines they imposed.

Update for Louross,
Mainly still setting up my controllers but I did manage a quick circuit of KSEA in the default B737-800.
I am very familiar with the 737 as I have been flying the PMDG version for many years both in FSX and P3.
Remembering this is a default aircraft in XP11 and not a costly PMDG payware.
My opinion is that the XP11 737 is far superior, all systems operate and she taxi's and flies just like the real aircraft. You have to operate her by the book or else she bites back, for serious simming she is fantastic.
One feature of the real aircraft is modelled which the PMDG version does not have and that is the Vne flap extension speeds, you can preselect a flap setting but they will not extend until the required speed is reached, just like the real aircraft.
On the PMDG version you can lower full flap whilst still doing 500 mph without blowing them off the wing, not on this XP baby........

Thanks for that info- sounds good. Aren't they limited in scenery, and are there "propliners" and early jets for X-Plane? thanks- lr

Oh, BTW, Allen, do you actually let real life interfere with FS? lr.

LR
Have not got to the scenery part of things yet but there is much development going on both freeware and payware and aircraft, probably the most development of any of our present sim platforms. One thing that caught my attention was the recent announcement from Orbx that they are now developing for XP11, that rings a bell in my tiny brain that this sim has a big future.
Before I purchased Xp11 I spent around 2 months watching U-tube videos, forums and Google posts.
With the aircraft I really only fly the B737-800 and MJ's freeware C-47, which is now available in XP. I did a quick google on the early jets and props, found the DC-8, Caravelle, B727, early B737, Cessna 195, Ford Trimotor and am sure many more as it was just a quick look.
If you have a good internet connection I would suggest you google about Xp11, watch U-tube vids and tutorials and visit the Org. store.
Hope that this helps some with your decision .
Regards Rob

Have to plead guilty to that one Lou, you'd think at my age I'd get my priorities straight!
Actually I started a new job with a power company 2 years ago thinking it would be a nice slide out to retirement. However I have been involved in setting up a new area of the business with half the team originally planned. Now I am about to also mentor 3 MSc students for a course that we are sponsoring at a University. There was only meant to be one of them!
Hopefully it will all calm down a bit over the next few months. I'll have to keep an eye on X-plane too. It was also highly recommended by a couple of the DCA pilots who took part in the BCAR.
Regards, Allan
