leg 14: leaving Mount Magnet. A quick look back over our left shoulder... so long, mates! Moon as co-pilot ? We have been flying parallel to the main road to Sandstone and this must be Sandstone Aerodrome. It's not on any map I have though. (or FSNav for that matter...) This flight is quite a handsfull! Very bumpy and gusty. Here we are struggling to keep our bomber straight and level on the second leg inbound WLU NDB. The right turn overhead Wiluna airfield. A wide downwind cicuit took us overhead the big gold mine of Jundee. Entering the small ramp of Jundee. Note the timer that restarted again during my high speed taxiing... Can't wait for that cool beer. Shutting down for the day among these nice little local fellas. Talking about the Outback... I found it !!

leg15 My R-2800's burst to life at Jundee under a watchfull eye of this "ATC controller" up in a tree. It looks like this pair of dingo's are by now used to all these strange, noisy, smelling GAAR-aircraft dropping in 'their' airfield... Again some time left to play around a bit upon arrival: beating-up Bronzewings' runway 09. ... anyway, these Skippies don't seem much impressed by my aviator skills... Nice view on Bronzewing on downwind. Passing yet another goldmine on finals. Finding a spot on the dusty ramp.

Just about to begin the over water trek to Troughton Island. I will come clean and admit I photoshopped the sun a little to make it look a bit less crappy, thus losing it eligibility in the competition!

Time to have the lights on. Enroute Mt Magnet I've finished for the day, but someone else is just starting. After takeoff at Jundee, the tailwheel wouldn't retract. We decided to go back. This wasn't set up. It just happened out of the blue, perhaps a little too much aft stick when applying power. Just goes to show that Flt Sim can bowl a googly out of the blue. A cricketing term (for our Transatlantic cousins, I guess the equivalent is throwing a curve ball?) Although it showed three greens, the tailwheel couldn't take the strain. Luckily no damage and on our way again after about an hour.

leg 16: Split second before touch-down... A strong right 60 deg. crosswind of about 17 knots and gusting is actually very near our limits. Most interesting landing of the rally sofar! ...Large amount of left rudder and full right aileron... and keep that wing down.. Keep her on the center... flaps up!... and easy on the brakes.... Pew, what a landing

Leg 17: The strong winds are still there. Here we are cruising at 5000 feet going in and out of low cloud. Civilisation at last! The town of Kalgoorlie is finally there. What a contrast with earlier airports! This is like landing in Hong Kong or London City or something!! This looks like a nice parking spot for the night.
