leg 181- Just after lift-off at Kalgoorlies' runway 18. Easy, afternoon flight, light wind and so now and then into cloud. Turning in on the NDB approach at Southern Cross, keeping an eye on the runway. Short finals over the village. Turning off the runway after landing... Next is the final leg of GAAR 2009!

leg 19: Finish!! It's the last day of the rally... Starting up at Southern Cross airfield. Taxi-out check list... brakes: checked, mixture: rich, radio/nav: set, flaps: set for take-off... Lining up: ..landing lights: ON! oops! one not working? ...must have been a loose contact or something. Light working now. Climb out. This stunning view clearly shows the sleek lines of this great Douglas design. Also Pratt & Whitney behaved well this rally. My R-2800's never missed a beat! Approaching the city of Northham with the airport on the right. Overhead Pearce AFB, waypoint. The left turn at Pearce. Nice view on the disused airbase Caversham with in the distance Perth International. Caversham, also known as Middle Swan Airfield was constructed during World War II as a parent aerodrome for the United States Fleet Air Arm of the 7th Fleet. Perth International on the left. Diving towards the finish! One of the benefits flying 'heavy metal' is to be able to do some aerobatics so now and then. ... this is now! ...and this is then. Recovering from a climbing roll. Lowering the gear on downwind. In the distance, a Quantas 747 on approach Perth Intl. does the same. Taxi-in and guys in control tower are waving.. Thanks guys! Magneto switches all on 'OFF'... Next is the battery master switch. This is it for this years' GAAR. See you all next year !!

leg 14 after a hard days and nights work with replacing the broken oil pipe my old lady sounds really fresh and ready to new adventures.... all sounds good,....normal oil pressure,...deep sigh that's how we love it,....country music to steady engine sound some rare farming areas to fly above and a bright sun to join us or the moon as copilot? endless outback turning point: Wiluna the turn towards Jundee engine problems?? not at all? what a question....smile Jundee approach touch down my old bird! what a perfect girl.... at the end of a perfect flight a perfect landing with an unbelieavable timing....only 0,02 seconds ahead ! the perfect reward :-)

leg 16 from Bronzewing to Murrin Murrin just behind YBWG I saw something like a "Fata Morgana" a mountain consisting of water? my PC must have an illusion....LOL then: another flight across plains and billabongs,....endless scenery well known picture... another WP engine temp rising?!?! oil?!?! shut down again....this can't be... strong enough with a single engine.... crablanding ahead, attention! we did this already a few days ago,... a few seconds.... touch down ,....aaaaah hey! again 0,02 seconds,...no joke... :-) smoke in taxying.... we are lucky again,...no fire just the oil pipe fitting was loose... this will be fixed easily.... after all: the longer we fly the better the timing and who thinks this could be boring???

leg 17 after changing a gasket in the oil system this might be ok by now so we start up again dirction Kalgoorlie turning point ahead LEO left turn...heading 175 some dry billabongs , just like mooncraters... YPKG ahead, what a scenery.... runway final touch down and after a bumpy cruise with crosswinds on final we touch down at YPKG with the huge mining area in the background.... this scenery catches my eyes more than the actual timing...oops, missed nearly a second ;-)
