The English Gentleman stretched and looked around slowly taking in his surroundings he heard a gentle but discreet cough behind him and he turned, ‘Yes Hawkins’ ‘Your Chair Sir’ replied the faithful Hawkins as he unfolded a canvas camp chair and placed it in the shade of the G21 Goose, ‘Thank You’ said The English Gentleman as he sank wearily onto the chair.
Hawkins stood before him and looked around, ‘Excuse me Sir’, he said ‘It is a little errrrrr’ ‘Isolated’ said The English Gentleman’ ‘Exactly’ replied Hawkins. ‘Telfer’ said The English Gentleman, ‘Its known for being isolated’; ‘I see sir’ said Hawkins.
The English Gentleman closed his eyes for a moment and thought to himself that so far there had been no problems. The Goose had performed, so far, impeccably, his navigation had been to a passable standard to have given no real concerns or problems, good enough certainly to have reached Telfer at least, though this was only leg seven out of nineteen so not even half way as yet.
He opened his eyes again and squinted against the sun. ‘Tea Sir’ enquired Hawkins, ‘yes please’ he replied and he sat and watched Hawkins who with professional ease removed a wicker hamper from the aircraft upon which was marked in black Fortnum and Mason, London, preceded to open it and then set about the business of preparing tea, as he did so he said to Hawkins, ‘This is a far cry from Cheese Sandwiches’ ‘Cheese Sandwiches’ replied Hawkins, The English Gentleman laughed, ‘never mind Hawkins it was a long time ago, ‘Very Good Sir’ said Hawkins and returned to his task
Within ten minutes Hawkins had laid upon the camping table a selection of sandwiches, there was brown bread with cucumber, white bread with egg and cress and a couple with smoked salmon, on a separate plate there was a selection of cakes and on a third plate were arranged four scones along with two small containers one with butter and one with strawberry preserve. Hawkins stood with a teapot in one hand and a milk jug in the other, ‘Tea Sir’ he enquired again, ‘Prince of Wales blend’ asked The English Gentleman’, ‘Of course Sir’ replied the redoubtable Hawkins.
