San Jose - Las Vegas !! Late afternoon departure at San Jose. Hopefully, there’s still some time left to gamble a bit after landing. Climbing out to the south east. Pine Flat Lake as seen from 31600 feet. Soon we’re right over the Sierra Nevada. Approaching ‘FURNY’, the waypoint at Furnace Creek, about the hottest place on earth in Death Valley. An overview from the cockpit of Death Valley. Badwater, a basin located within Death Valley, is the specific location of the lowest elevation in North America at 282 ft (85.5 m ) below sea level. This point is only 76 miles (123 km) east of Mount Whitney, the highest point in the contiguous United States. Approaching Vegas and our workload is rising… ‘Gliding’ overhead the suburban area, west of the city center. ‘The Strip’ becomes visible. So is the field. Turning in for the approach. We fly a downwind and base for runway 25R over Lake Mead. Just before sundown and we have three greens. Taxi to the stand on a magical place… Slotmachines, here we come!!

Next (scenic) leg: Las Vegas – Denver, ColoradoThere it is! The Luxor Hotel Skybeam. The tip of the pyramid contains a fixed-position spotlight that points directly upward – it is the brightest beam in the world, and is visible from anywhere in the Las Vegas valley at night, and can be seen at flight level from above Los Angeles, California, over 275 miles (440 km) away. Light is generated using 39 Xenon lamps of 7 kilowatts each. The hourly cost, including lamps, electricity, and repairs, is US$51 — roughly two weeks' worth of electricity for the average American household… Steadily, we make our way to the runway in the early morning. The Southwest-terminal… no doubt! Within minutes we spot the Colorado river… … and Lake Mead with the Hoover Dam. Some minutes later the Grand Canyon in full lenght comes into view. Pretty cool! This is Lake Powell near Page. Leaving high country and descending into Denver Intl. Chasing our shadow at short finals. Low cost operator Frontier Airlines flies out of KDEN and has a whole series of animals painted on their tails. Want to see them all? www.frontierairlines.com/frontier/fun-stuff/animal-tales-continued.doApproaching the end of this flight. To be continued…
