OK. I'll have to do some work to figure how to make a zip in Vista. Expect it sometime tomorrow. If you'd like it I also have FD's for a Piper Aztec by Fred Chote (Night Wolf Air Express). It is a good Gmax model with opening door and a full interior.

sure. I ill probably fly that more often for sure.
I did a test flight in the big bird just to check it out. I had some difficulty with the outer skin disappearing, but I managed to get it off the ground without too much difficulty.
Too much going on tonight. We installed our window AC units, my car simply needed tires rotated, but we found a broken sway bar linkage, thing. Busy afternoon. Real golf tomorrow at 6 a.m. then to haul a power washer downtown to wash the mold off the building at our City Park..... Maybe I'll get some flying in somewhere in there.

Regarding zips and Vista I have been using WinRar on several OSes, including Vista. Have you tried to install the free 7 zip?
I'll try this bird with your FDs if you send me the revised version.

OK. You guys do know this FD only works for FS2002 don't you? It would be a lot of work to change it to FS9.
I'll send these two files as I sent them to Flaming - unzipped. They're not really big enough to need zipping. I got used to zipping everything as much to preserve integrity of the files as to shorten the mailed files. Let me know if you get trash in the files.
Richard, I assume you need the HU-16 files in FS9 (2004). I have an HU-16 that was working fine on lkand or water the last time I flew it. I'll send you the FD zipped for FS9.

I got the file Tom, and installed it, but I haven't had time to fly it yet. I'll see if I can get a flight in after work today.

OK, since I've been AWOL for a while I figured it was an FS 2002 aircraft being set up for FS 2004. I certainly COULD reinstall FS 2002 if there's a compelling reason to do so.

I had visitors for two days so I have been delayed in emailing more FD files. Since Flaming got a good set of files unzipped I'll send the others that way. They are not big, just the .cfg and .air files.
Hans, this is all about an installation of FS2002 I have made on my ultra cheap laptop computer. It runs FS2002 pretty well though it has Vista for an op sys and that has created problems. I can't get any of my xml gauges to work. That means when adjusting FD fiels I can't check the CG position. That makes it tough. I have just added a very few plans in addition to the default planes. The C-124 was a noteworthy monster. I needed additional info on it to complete the FD files because I don't have much documentation on it.
There is a nice BIG FS9 model on it that has been too big for me to download. This FS2002 file was a nice size. But it was very inaccurate. I know nothing about the FS9 files but that's what anyone should use that flies in FS9. The CG aspect of the transformation from FS2002 to FS9 would be tough with this monster.
But if you and Richard would still like these FS2002 files, I will send them.

Provided the nice big FS9 file flies well I'll opt for that one. However, it would be nice to get your FS 2002 version for comparison. By cross-checking the aircraft.cfg files I'll confirm that the basic facts are correct.
Regarding XML gauges and Vista your XML gauges for FS9 certainly work on my Vista. Have you tried the following: 1) Run FS as administrator 2) Disable the Vista User Account Control (UAC) My guess is that an XML gauge might be flagged as an unauthorized program that is being prevented from running.

Also, while we're discussing the Vista OS, be sure to set it for "Best Performance" instead of "let the OS choose what's best". I'm in Windows 7 so I don't know if that setting is in the same location as mine. It will make Vista look like windows 2000 but whatever...!

I am not sure how to do those things. I have tried to run as Administrator but sometimes it has not worked.
I succeeded in disabling passwords but do not think I have shut down user acothingy control. I started on this laptop sharing it with my wife. Then she bought her own computer after she became independently rich on her Social Security income. So I tried to change it so I am the sole user. But I see little that has changed.
The curious thing is that I have checked details on each xml file and they appear to be fully under my control. Several default aircraft in FS2002 have xml gauges and they work fine. Mine are the only ones that don't work. They were emailed from my other computer.
I should add that my email handler is of "unknown origin." It is by Microsoft.

Here's a piece a software / batch file that puts you in control: www.tweak-uac.com/home/If you don't trust any software you can do it manually. Search for "disable UAC" and you'll get plenty of matching websites. Just print out the instructions. When you change the UAC setting it'll take a reboot to take effect. Another idea: right click the XML gauges that won't run and check their properties. Under "security" you'll find "permissions for authenticated users". All of these should be flagged in the left column (allow).

I solved my problem. I checked properties of all xml files (not many yet) and set the ownership to User Tom. I also put them into a Digital subfolder of the Gauges folder so the calling code looks just like on my other system. Now I have power gauges and the landing speed gauge working. I have just emailed my self the files for a pop-up weight and balance gauge. I'll put that on all aircraft rather than having the data directly on the panel.
Once I gave myself permission to use my files, everything worked!
What a $#&king Operating System! And I have the "Home version." I'd hate to see the office version!

About a year ago I disabled the Vista User Account Control. That's why I don't bang my head against the wall as you did. Windows 7 has made the UAC into a recommended option that can be disabled without too much ado. This is what happened--MS wanted to make the OS absolutely fool-proof. Whenever inexperienced users or potentially rogue software (aka not MS certified software) did something that just might be a little bit suspect the OS would intervene. We know how that went.
The good part is that experienced user may still regain control, even with Vista. Just disable the UAC and you're back to Win XP in this respect. The UAC remains to be a good idea when kids or inexperienced users are browsing the web. For advanced users and developers in particular a baby sitting OS just gets in your way.

Good words HP, I have decided to dive in at the deep end and will pick up a copy of W7-64 today and get stuck into FSX at last. I've had a copy of the sim for a long while and have only peeped at it. The comments by F.H.Sauce esq. have influenced me when he mentions the eye candy, a vital part of VFR realism I think, thanks Kevin.
The main thing which has been keeping me using FS9 (with XP), and may have me coming back to it now and then, is the plethora of add-ons which I have and the volumes of stuff which is still available as free downloads.
