That was one "Stubby" and some "Didgeridoo-sound" too much! (How is life Jazzthom?) A short night - I slept very bad in the hangar on a air mattress and woke up because of the pelting rain to the tin roof. But nevertheless, I have to move on for leg #4 - well apparelled! Shortly before my line-up, I heard an aircraft-pilot speaking on the VHF "Orbost, VH-LOL for landing rwy 25". I regarded with curiosity the incoming aircraft.. Hey, thats another Luscombe!... It's maybe Mr. Ed Burke in his Luscombe - poor men, I feel sorry for him. He has to work hard dealing with this wind. But maybe I feel sorry for oneself.. in a minute, when airborn.. Well then.. leaving the save coast for my journey into the unknown! .-- .... . .-. . ' .. ... ' - .... . ' - --- .. .-.. . - - . ..--.. After a bumpy flight, I finally reached the north coast of "Flinders Island". Still very windy, I dread to think about the landing. "A dance, living on the edge..!" .. and the wind is shifting me off the centerline! Lucky fellow I am, not to hop into the blue! That was more an arrival, then a landing! YFLI, what a busy small airport it is.. .. and even more, a news helicopter is here as well! Not everey day is rallye day.. keep smiling! I'm going to call it a day. Cheers. Tks shorttwo for sponsoring the BBQ!!

I had a really good screenshot for Leg 4 but forgot to copy it off my clipboard, so you'll just have to imagine it! On the upside, got my closest time so far

I had a really good screenshot for Leg 4 but forgot to copy it off my clipboard, so you'll just have to imagine it! On the upside, got my closest time so far Simon, I use a software tool called FRAPS for screenshots and video. It automatically saves to a specified directory. By the way, should I ask if you are getting any "coaching" from the ramp? ;D Cheers Andrew

leg 5 weather conditions have cleared up and off we go.... ;D leaving this nice BBQ place behind us...... two native Piper pilots on the right wing side coming from St.Helens Flying School heading towards us and giving their salute to the GAAR 2013 entering Tasmania: the Musselroe Bay, a perfect place to relax, the Conservation Area is a haven for anglers and birdwatchers in the middle of this scenic coastline ( deep sigh ) .... Iceton Station Airfield nearby would make it easy to stay here.... I could not resist and with a steep turn having a low flyover ;D absolutely "my thing"..... hey,....can you see the heraldic animal? awesome place! hurrying back on the trip and approaching St.Helens: the PC shows a monsterwave at the cliffs.... another place to stay referring to the great seafood here ( hey Urs: King Prawns on the BBQ ! ) OMG! Do you see the DC3 ?!?!?! one of my all time favourites!!!! but, touch and go.....Andrew, next time we HAVE to stop here ..... smile sad looking back.... on the way south I could not resist and have another deep flyover: Moultny Lagoon Game Reserve: Friendly Beaches airstrip.....we see a lot of sheep and many , really many birds,...let's take care not to hit one.... I could have made thousands of pics from this wonderful country so far.... hey Urs, another lighthouse ( I saw so many....do you know all of them??? the charts know) we had to speed up at the end to be in target time....and we did it: Tasman Bridge special permit to underfly!!! unbelieavable view from the cockpit, a huge ( and I mean HUGE) firework awaits us: cannot resist to fly crosswind REALLY close.....evil grin ;D at the end of this day we stand at the very end of the runway and just needed additional 100 feet to have the one and only perfect TTime,....but 0.07 time missing is not to bad after this marvellous ride. the firework's still magnificent, but really close to the fuelstation..... okay,....lets meet Urs and "kill" some king prawns.....Cheers to all of you!

Ready for Leg #5 and as a side note: While sitting in good company at the BBQ last night, telling tales about my landing on Rwy14 - going nearly off the runway, there was a roaring laughter: Why didn't you use rwy23 for landing? easy peasy! Eh, what an old fool I am! For this long leg down to Hobart, I'm really concerned about the strong headwind and my gasoline consumption. I can calculate as I will: No chance to reach 87 knots with 16 knots headwind.. and I will run out off fuel anyway! Roller-coaster of emotions.. Today, I'm dead sure to take the correct runway for departure, because I just follow the SAAB 34. There are professionals in the cockpit!! Just a quick check to my three important instruments: Fuel, Nav-Aids, Flighttimer - all set and checked: 07:35 Zulu-time "balls to the wall".. .. going up, free of charge and heading south.. Good bye Flinders Island. A nice ride over some small islands and I reached the north coast of Tasmania near Musselroe Bay. Since a longer time, I spotted a grey cloud high up and I smelled smoke.. coming closer, I find out what it was: a bushfire! Early enough I have started my descent towards St. Helens YSTH for my touch&go on rwy26.. .. nailed, with 16 knots crosswind from the left! Sorrowful and narrowly I watch my fuel level indicator.. I allready used more then the half..and I can't enjoy the ambiance very much. But there is Halfmoon Bay, Sleepy Bay and far in front of me: Freycinet-Island, with same named Mountain and Park. Beautific another fire is illuminating the nightly sky.. Over the Great Oyster Bay I grab my Pad and start a new calculation: With my 73 knots on groundspeed and for the remaining 53 miles to Hobart, I need approx. 45 minutes and at least 9 litres of gasoline. But I just have 13 litres left in the tank.. so I have to cancel the sightseeing-tour over the city, the Constituiton Docks and the Tasman-bridge. It's now a straight course towards Hobart Cambridge airfield and I won't bother others with a diversion landing.. I arrived a bit early, but after all, with 4 litres of fuel left.. .. just enough time and fuel to circle around the grandiose welcome! And if the engine is call to quit, the runway is just beneath.. And that was it. Cheers Urs PS: I just took notice of jazzthom's screen shots. What a heck of a job you did Thomas. But remember: Too courageously pilots won't get very old.. King Prawns on the BBQ? sounds yery good.. some Chardonnay aswell please. Cheers

Hey Urs! Great job! you did it!!!! To sad, you couldn' t enjoy as much as I did, but you know my bird is made for heavy weight and overload....lol.... thats why I have enough fuel and can take the risk of "sightseeing tours". ;D...but come on the prawns are just crispy and the Chardonnay still cooled... Cheers!!! Thom
