Good On Ya, Bob!!!! Launched out of Trincomalee, overloaded of course, and just as we were passing 4000 feet, got a very loud "BANG" out of #3. Oil press dropped, RPM dropped, everything dropped, including #5 cylinder. Limped back to Trin, landed VERY gently due to the weight. Now to change a jug and piston and strike out again...

Made it to Karachi. 8 hours, most of it over India. Nav from radio station to radio station, pretty simple stuff.

Long Way Home, Leg 11, Karachi to Baharain. Nothing spectacular to report, flew using real weather. Had some reduced vis(3 to 4 miles)over the Straits of Hormuz. Cleared well before landing.
Due to "real world" commitments, I won't be making any flights for the next week or so. See you then...

Made it to Bahrain in a little over 6 hours and to Khartoum in about 8 hours, no problems. Then on to Leopoldville. Had head winds and turbulence most of the way. Low clouds down to 1500' so followed the Congo River the last 85 nm. and landed OK. While in flight the book, The Long Way Home, arrived. According to the book, when they took off from the river they had 5100 gallons of fuel and were 2000 lbs overweight. I added 900 gallons to the center tank and adjusted the load to make the overweight condition. Took off OK and am on my way to Natal, a very long flight.

Departed Trincomalee for Karachi with No. 3 patched up but the low grade fuel is a worry with the engines running rough. Thankfully it all stayed together. Karachi to Bahrain, Khartoum and on to Leopoldville. Nice to see some green again after the sandy country. Then goodbye Africa for the long haul to Natal, Brazil, at 20 hours 17 minutes a personal longest endurance with not a lot to see!

Landed at Edo, 4NY2, after 11 hours and 52 minutes. 115 hours and 37 minutes total. A long way home, and I started In New Zealand. Now I can fire up my Super Cub and fly Allan's C.A.R Hop.

Now I can fire up my Super Cub and fly Allan's C.A.R Hop. I can recommend an excellent restaurant along your way where the company is even better than the food. Might need an amphibian for that leg. Got to go, SWMBO is celebrating a certain milestone today!

Back in the saddle! Bahrain to Khartoum. Crossed the Arabian Peninsula at 12,000. Didn't need any trouble from the natives... Picked up the Nile at Atbara, turned southish, and followed the Nile on in. Landed at 1238Z/1338L.

Allan, We made a "missed approach" past that restaurant, then landed at KCOE and drove down to the restaurant for lunch. The food was good, as usual, but the great company was missing.

After many trials and tribulations in the "Real World", I finally managed to get into Leopoldville. 10.9 hours across Africa, miles and miles of green!
