This is in reply to pterodactyl at the bottom of the screenies page 9, who says he worked on the actual Curtiss C-46 that I have been flying here! That was in Winnipeg before it went way up North to the Canadian Northern Territories to Joe at Buffalo. George that is an amazing link between reality and sim. I flew the old girl all the way out from Hay River using real world weather, had huge fun with the GAAR. Now I think I might stooge around a lot more of Orbyx's Oz scenery - it's a long way from Wollongong to Perth in WA, and there's plenty of UK winter evenings to see off. Might change the livery, stay out here doing a bit of freighting and hope for another GAAR next year ... if Andrew has the patience and a good broadband connection. Thanks again guys.

Thanks Deltahotel; I've watched the show just to see how the old girls are holding up. With the two C46's they have the other one TXW actually made the hop over the Burma Hump during WWII. Whe we first received it the added gun turret ring was still on the top just behind the cockpit door. The company "Air Manitoba" just never had the heart to remove it and I wonder if it is still there. Glad you joined us and I might look at trying out Orbyx's Oz scenery since I noticed your scenery was a lot more realistic then my default FSX.

Andrew I tried something different for the first time and flew the rally without the GPS available deliberately disabling it for the rally. I used Plan G to set up the flight plans and then flew it by my calculations. Honestly have never had so much fun. I did come in kind of steep a few times because of a mis-calculation in speed and altitude but much more real flying even with my slow boat. Looking forward to another kick at the cat next year. Now I think it is time to head back to the frozen north of Canada. Thanks for a great rally as usual.

George,
My pleasure and I'm glad you enjoyed another GAAR. Good to see you got down into the detail of flight planning and old world navigation - it can be so much fun.
I look forward to seeing you again next year.
Cheers Andrew

I did the same as pterodactyl (George), and found that my VFR skills got tweaked pretty good, particularly when (twice) I found myself being lost somewhere in the outback! Thanks Andrew. Lots of fun. Will be back next year. (PS: I'm actually planning on flying some of your previous years' route as well, for some more fun and exercise)

Andrew, isn't it true how many times our real world activities seem to interfere with our virtual world activities. I am trying to fly home and yet my real world cabinets are demanding my attention to get finished and mounted in the kitchen. REALLY you would think they and the wife would understand priorities here.

However, I do know enough to know you never mess or dawdle with matters relating to the kitchen. Cheers Andrew
