I blagged (researched) these instructions off the midnight aviation forum. I have not tried them out on my FSX installation but will shortly:
FSX, out of the box, is only set up for "Gamespy" or local area Lan's. There are how-ever brilliant FREE after market utilities from Russell Gilbert (www.chocolatesoftware.com) that allows FSX to hook up in multiplay with heaps of different servers. i.e. Our Midnight Aviation Servers.
Below are step by step instruction on how to set this up. Its dead simple and easy to do. There are also good instructions at Russlls site.
Have FSX installed.
Have at least FSX Sp1 installed. (A must for performance issues)
Go to
www.chocolatesoftware.com and download ,,
FsHostClient and FsHostSpy ,,, install both of them.
Make a shortcut on your desktop to each of them. (If it doesn’t happen automatically)
If you haven’t already got it ,, go to
www.teamspeak.org and download and install "TeamSpeak 3 Client"
Start FSX.
In FSX go to Options/ Settings/ General and UN-TICK "Pause on task switch"
Start FshostSpy and wait for the list of servers to show.
Click on your choice. All the details for FSHostClient and Teamspeak are in the panel to the right.
Click on "Copy to clipboard" and the paste the IP address to Multiplayer/ Connect window of FsHostClient,, fill in the other box's and then connect.
Copy and paste the Teamspeak IP address into the "Quick Connect" menu, fill in the other box's and then connect.
There are a couple of settings in FsHostClient you need to adjust.
On the small window named FsHostClient ,, click on "edit" then "options",,
Set "After sending a chat Message" to show "Set focus to Flight Simulator"
Set "After receiving a chat message" to show "Do Nothing"
Unless you are doing formation flying you may want to set to "Redraw" to 100 or more to lessen the load on your internet link.
The next time you start everything, there is no need to start FsHostSpy because FsHostClient and TeamSpeak remember all your settings.
Negatives ,,, As FsHostClient is an external program from FSX,, , When you set focus (click on) the Chat window, FSX's sound will stop, but it continues to fly .. At the moment, there is no cure for this but as we use Teamspeak there is not really much chatting within the chat window at any rate.
(Clicking on a FSX screen restores the sound)
Hope this helps.
