I'm resting here for a while. The name Dili reminds me of the old English song made popular in the '50s, Lavender's blue, dilly, dilly... I made the festival (great food), did a little sight seeing, saw the statue of Christ, but mostly just catching up on a little maintenance. Also having the relief containers removed. I'm glad to get rid of that extra weight, I was a little worried about the landing so I made a very careful straight in approach. According to Tom's Landing Gauge I touched down at 80 kts and -150 fpm. I'm also flying a Piper Apache which had a target time of 167.9 minutes. On the leg from BC WPEC to Dili I ran into a rain shower as I was nearing Ponta Fatossidi, but it was over by the time I made my approach. The target time for the P-38 was 104.76 minutes and I did not hit the rain shower before landing. Did anyone else hit the rain shower and at what time and where?

I have descended through a rain shower near Hau, E. Timor on my flights with the Twin Bonanza and the DC-3. I haven't flown the single engine Comanche 250 yet. I'm waiting for some shark repelant to arrive.

Allen,
During flight testing, I was hitting the rain showers anywhere between south of Baucau before going "feet dry", right through descent, approach and on landing at Dili depending on what time you arrive. Admittedly, during flight testing I was using a complete range of aircraft (not always GAAR compliant).
My official GAAR flights in the Grumman 'Albatross' and DC-3 have seen rain from west of Baucau en route to Dili and on approach.

Well, it looks like we need a post from some folks with a target times between 105 and 124 minutes. Anybody?

Andrew, I am flying three diffrent speed ranges with FS9 and flown into rain with each one,the slowest actually about 25 miles out from Dili the fastest as you say on approach. find it does help clear the air of the fumes from KAPT'N ZLOGGS SPECIALE FUEL which really makes for a tough approach if your in line behind him and PROPPY

Well, it looks like we need a post from some folks with a target times between 105 and 124 minutes. Anybody? My other entry (DH91) is [glow=red,2,300] NOT[/glow] in that range, however it's still waiting for a new dinghy as I suspect the glue holding it together may be the same one as they used on the Mosquito, and therefore unsuitable for hot and humid climates! It definitely rained on (and inside) my DC-3. The "dilly dilly" song wasn't new in the 1950s - it's a 17th century (possibly earlier) one, although the lyrics got cleaned up for the 50s version. Have just checked the figures for the DH91 - and inserted the word "NOT" in the above.

Hey am I missing something??? I have not had a rain shower on any of these GAAR flights yet. I have been trying to fly one leg a day and other than a lot of real low level cloud cover the weather has been cooperating. I have never seen such low dense ground clouds. Made me miss a couple of landings as the strips were obscured by these low ground clouds/fog. I worry that I’m not doing something right. If I am messing up, please set me straight.

I came in at 116 minutes, and didn't find any rain. Mind you, up until about the BC I was cuising VFR on top at 8500', letting down from there, so possibly I was above it. One thing I did forget about though; the Pig cruises at about the same IAS at 8.5 as it does at 4.5, but of course at a higher TAS. Fouled up my timings, but I won't make that mistake again (I hope)

Well, Rattler, I don't think you missed it because it wasn't there yet. Looking at the target times for the folks above and Ignacio Del Muro's screen shot, I think it was raining at Dili around 11:00 to 11:10. So if you arrived later than you encountered the rain east of Dili between Dili and waypoint BC. But if you arrived before 11:00 as you did and I did in my P-38 then the rain shower was still WEST of Dili and we didn't see it. So FS real weather is moving the rain shower from west to east as we would expect due to the wind direction. I haven't flown with real weather very much and this is the first time that I've ever seen such an effect. Do you guys agree?

Bud, if I'm correct in my post above, then according to your target time you should have hit the rain west of waypoint BC en rout to Dili. Did you load the event file for each GAAR leg (and then switch to your PBY)? That's the only way to get the real weather for each leg.

So here I am in my trusty Apache, ready to take off on leg 4 to Troughton Island. I'm looking forward to picking up my companions there. Looking to the south I see a lot of Misty Mountains. I wonder how high they are...

Allen Yes that’s the way I do this exercise. I load the event file for each flight then I switch to my P-Boat and continue on. So I have what ever the event file has preset as to weather and other settings. I only change aircraft. Have I done anything wrong ?? Sometimes I can shot my self in the foot real easily. Bud

Well, I'm kinda out of ideas. I've only flown 3 legs, can you compare the screen shots that guys have posted to what you are seeing on your legs? I don't remember any low clouds or fog that would keep me from missing a landing on those 3 legs. Could you post a screen shot of one of your problem areas? The only other thing that I can think of is to make sure your clock is set to the take off time listed on the event sheet
