It is being reported here in Australia that the wreakage of "Smithy's" Lockheed Altair, "Lady Southern Cross" has been found off the coast of Burma. If so, this will solve one of the greatest aviation mysteries in history
"Smithy" and his co-pilot Tommy Pethybridge disappeared without trace in 1935 while attempting to break the record for a flight between England and Australia in the Lady Southern Cross.
The evidence supporting the find is sonar imaging matching that of the unique design of the Lockheed Altair.

That is really interesting. It is so interesting when they discover the whereabouts and causes of some of the crashes of that era. www.adastron.com/lockheed/altair/altair.htmwww.dhub.org/object/141688,canberra They found only the wheel with damaged strut attached years ago and there has been a doco about it as well, whether he hit a small island just off the Burma mainland, as there were palms with the tops chopped off in a line going down the slope that they found when searching, or, that the crash was in the sea nearby and the plane sunk. It is believed they came down at night. Havent heard the latest news as yet. * I must add that my virtual Altair is safe and sound sitting at Jandakot where I left it!! cheers
