It’s been over a year, but I’m back and hoping to stay this time.
I thought I’d post a little bit about the type of flying that I’m doing these days.
I think it will fit nicely with Bluegrass Airlines operations.
Plus… I still play bluegrass music, so I love the company name!
I’ve been involved in something called FS Economy for about a year now.
Many of you may have heard of it.
It is really focused on building a “business” flying small planes.
You start out by renting, then later buying airplanes and FBO’s to fly from.
It is a lot of fun (and I think I’ve seen several BGA call-signs over there).
There is nothing that says I can’t file my FSE flight reports with any virtual airline that I choose (as long as the airline is OK with it)… which is exactly what I was looking for at BGA… small planes, on-demand charter operations being OK… so here I am.
I actually “own” two small companies in FSE:
Westridge Aviation (based in Alabama) and Rust’s Flying Service (based in Alaska).
(I got to fly on N4596U in the REAL WORLD with Rust’s back in August of this year… I’ll post that story at some point).
Anyway…
In FSE I have access to 13 aircraft.
I own 10 of them and 3 are on “free” lease to Rust’s from other FSE pilots.
(The way you get planes is FLY… charters, hub routes for other people, and make virtual money.)
I have based all may planes at different airports to give me lots of variety.
In FSE, all airplanes have to be flown from wherever they landed last… so you keep track of where your planes are. Things break occasionally and cost virtual money to repair, etc. It’s a fun system.
(Hub based systems make more money, and I have done that, but random destinations is more fun. Right now all my FBO’s are set to a fairly realistic “charter” type operation… I never know where I might be flying today… which is fun!)
My fleet and current basing looks like this:
Cessna Caravan N675HP at PANC Anchorage AK (leased aircraft)
DeHavilland Beaver N827D at KHSV Huntsville AL
Bell Huey N6583D at 1AL9 Northport AL
Cessna Stationair N6785V at KTUP Tupelo MS
Cessna Stationair N4596U at PAFA Fairbanks AK
Cessna Stationair N626KT at PAUN Unalakleet AK (leased aircraft)
Bell Jet Ranger N1033L at KBHM Birmingham AL
Cessna Skylane N20267 at KJFX Jasper AL
Cessna Skylane N9865B at KCGI Cape Girardeau MO
Cessna Skyhawk N2631S at KTCL Tuscaloosa AL (first FSE airplane that I bought)
Cessna Skyhawk N2358K at 4R9 Dauphin Island AL
Cessna Skyhawk N2740X at 89AK Wasilla AK (only FBO that I own in Alaska)
Aviat Husky N04DBC at 89AK Wasilla AK (leased aircraft)
I also have (own or rent) several facilities (job generating gates) at several airports
KHSV Huntsville AL, KTUP Tupelo MS, KCGI Cape Girardeau MO are my largest locations.
Smaller sites where I have some control are:
89AK Wasilla AK, 1AL9 Northport AL, 4R9 Dauphin Island AL, KMXF Maxwell AFB AL, KJFX Jasper AL, KTCL Tuscaloosa AL, KBHM Birmingham AL, KHKS Jackson MS.
This afternoon I changed all my gate “labels” to “Bluegrass Air Taxi” (temporary working name for my Bluegrass work just to make sure things work out OK).
AND I had the afternoon off from (real world) work, so I flew my first BGA routes.
Cessna 206 N626KT need to move to it’s new base at Unalakleet, so I found some paying jobs that took me there by way of Fairbanks… actually from PAMR Merrill Field AK to PAUO Willow AK to PAFA Fairbanks to PAUN Unalakleet.
AND then…
DHC-2 N827D from KHSV Huntsville AL to MS18 Corinth MS to 0MS9 Houston MS back to KHSV Huntsville AL.
Here is a shot of 27-Delta passing over the Westridge (now Bluegrass Air Taxi) facility at KTUP Tupelo MS during the flight today.
Fun afternoon.
I hope this type of flying fits in here.
