The de Havilland DH.80A Puss Moth is a British three-seater high-wing monoplane aeroplane designed and built by the de Havilland Aircraft Company between 1929 and 1933. It flew at a speed approaching 124 mph (200 km/h), making it one of the highest-performance private aircraft of its era. During the early 1930s, DH.80s were used for a number of record breaking flights. In early 1931, Nevill Vintcent made the first flight from England to Ceylon in G-AAXJ. In July-August 1931 Amy Johnson made an eight-day solo flight to Tokyo in G-AAZI, named "Jason II". Late in 1931, the Australian Bert Hinkler piloted a Canadian-built CF-APK on a series of important flights including New York-Jamaica, Jamaica to Venezuela, and a 22-hour, west-east crossing of the South Atlantic, only the second solo transatlantic crossing. Most famous of the record breaking Puss Moths was Jim Mollison's G-ABXY, "The Heart's Content" which completed the first solo east-west Atlantic crossing in August 1932 and the first east-west crossing of the South Atlantic from Lympne Aerodrome to Natal, Brazil in February 1933. His wife Amy Johnson made record flights between England and Cape Town using G-ACAB, "Desert Cloud" in 1932. C.J. Melrose flew VH-UQO, named "My Hildegarde" in the 1934 MacRobertson Air Race. They finished overall seventh and second on handicap in a time of 10 days 16 hours... and this is the reason why my GAAR 2014 Aircraft will be the VH-UQO, once flown by C.J. Melrose Here, you see me on approach to Southampton-Harbour.. .. where already a Vessel is waiting, for bringing the aircraft to Australia! Meanwhile I do some landings.. .. as you can see, NOT easy in X-winds! May the exercise succeed. Well, soon ready for disassembly to fit the containers. So see you all on GAAR 2014. Cheers Urs Hug

"Old Faithful" NC-61782 sitting on the ramp at Bowling Green in freezing rain. I was going to head north to Covington (KCVG) and Detroit-Wayne County (KDTW) to get some realistic idea of my fuel consumption before I head out on FlightSim's Sixth Annual Holkham Bay for the Holidays Dash on the 13th-- but we're having a non-virtual ice storm in Kentucky tonight, so here I sit... back to the hangar she goes...

Decided I should take advantage of a break in the weather to get the aircraft up to Detroit for the Holkham Bay flight. Climbing out from Covington, Kentucky This was typical of the weather and terrain for most of the flight About to pass over the 'cone of silence' at the Detroit radio range station

The container vessel is finally casting off Southampton Harbour. My "de Havilland D.H.80 Puss Moth" is well stored, and I hope not, she sinks into total container chaos! Reaching the the Channel.. .. and a few days later, the Vessel is about to pass the "Strait of Gibraltar". Still a long way to Australia! Cheers uhug
