Well of course you all know what a MOOC is, don't you? (It's a Massive Open Online Course) So called because they attract massive numbers of students, they are free, and they are online. Couldn't be simpler, oh and importantly they are free. There is a course which has just started running at www.edx.org for an Introduction to Aeronautical Engineering at www.edx.org/course/delftx/delftx-ae1110x-introduction-aeronautical-1201Now it says it takes up to 12 hours a week and there are tests which you can do as you go along. But, apart from the course being free, you don't have to do any of the tests if you don't want to. You can simply watch the downloadable videos that are available each week, and many people who sign up for MOOCs do so simply to get access to the video and online material. The first set of tests need to be completed by April 1st if you want to try for a certificate of completion. So still plenty of time to catch up if you get hooked. One warning, signing up for MOOCs can be addictive! The next time SWMBO mutters about "playing Biggles again" you could reply, "No - I'm doing some background work for my studies at the Technical University of Delft"
