I am trying to change the power output of an engine. Is it sufficient to modify it in the aircraft config file, or do I need to go into the mdl file? If so, what programme would you recommend I use to access the mdl?

Hi Rattler, I have never messed with the .mdl file. I modify power in the aircraft config file, either with the power_scalar or the max_rated_hp parameter in the piston_engine section. Assuming, of course, you have a piston engine. Keep in mind that changing the fixed_pitch_beta in the propeller section will also affect engine power. Hope this helps. Allen

Thanks Allen. I've got a bit of gen over on flightsim.com as well. I'm replicating Kingsford Smith's trans-Pacific flight of 1928, using Jens Kristensen's Fokker Trimotor. I've adjusted the hp from the 300 he has to the 220 used by Smithy. The first leg worked out well, with a flight time of 26:59 (not all in one go, and using the "electronic Charles Ulm") as against 27:25 in reality. Fuel burn was 965 usg, against a real 970, and I put that down to my own flying skills. So, it seems to be a pretty authentic model.
