This is a question I have posted on a couple of other forums.
Just a question for me to gauge what others do. I am thinking of binning my modern fleet of aircraft and just flying Classic ie VC10 age and going back to the Golden Age.
How many of you just fly Classics and have no modern fleets?

I fly a lot of the classics but I also fly a few of the more modern small military jets. I keep most of my modern fleet in a separate hanger outside FS9.

I fly with FS9 and mostly era 1930- 1960s props & turbo-prop and occasional helicopter or jet fighter thrown in, UH-1b Huey CH-35 Choctaw F9F-2 panther F86d Saber B-52 F4 Phantom being my most modern aircraft. I have flown the larger Jet airliners and the Lear on occasion but they do not compare to the simflying aircraft I seen at air shows ,airports , and military duty of my youth. an after thought for GAAR09 Ihave done my first panel mods by adding Toms timer and a dual ADF Gauge and putting a Cessna DME , and a relative wind gauge on the three aircraft I'm flying.it was frustrating at first but i now enjoy moving gauges to my personal scan preference, helped my Ils approach a lot.

As a real old, I mean old ex Navy flight engineer I am into the old piston pumpers. I fly my old PBY 5A, R4D-6, Lockheed Lo49A, Grumman F6F, Grumman Goose. I try my hand with some of the newer jets but always go back to what I know best. Hard to teach old dogs new tricks as they say… Maybe true ?

Old stuff in difficult country with some challenging wx tossed in is my favourite, but I still like to get into the big modern jets and expand my horizons. I like to see the scenery but do enjoy a solid instrument approach now and then. I dabble in soaring also. I guess I regularly fly them all as long as the wings stay still, not into choppers at all, repulsive beasts !

I like to fly DC-3's and smaller aircraft.
Many are in the 1940-1950 time frame, but I also have been flying pressurized Piper Mirage and Piper Meridian tubo-prop recently. Very seldom I will fly a small jet such as the Eclipse.

I think I've flown the 737 once, no other jets except the Eclipse 500. I fly the 314 Clipper, PB2Y Coronado, B-25, B-26 and R4D occasionally. Thanks to Tom's instructions, I've started flying the KingAir 350, Avanti and Caravan on high altitude flights using maps from National Geographic. Mostly I like to fly the twin engine Pipers and the Baron 58P, and, my favorite plane, the P-38. I do like the older rare birds. Alan Lowson is flying a Cunliffe-Owen 'Concordia' in GAAR 09. I had never heard of it, so I downloaded it, it's kinda neat and flies pretty good. I'm starting to look for more planes from the 30s and 40s. By the way, do you guys fly them 'out of the box' or do you like to tweak them if necessary? I also like to do panels, using the original .bmp and instruments where possible but adding digital gauges as Tom does.

I like flying a lot of the old war birds. I bop around once in a while with a Lancaster (not that good yet, but a favorite). Lots of hours in the Vought Corsair F4u (this will be 2nd GAAR for it and once around the world). Tried the big birds, 747, 737, Galaxy, but it just feels like glorified bus driving. I've actually done a bit of work in me real life on the PBY and B-26 so maybe it would be a challange to try flying one of those as well. As far as tweaking them up a bit I try to find information on Google about each aircraft and try to get it to fly as close to the original as possible, this is why I have done far more crashing then flying the Lancaster. I'd like to try a panel but haven't quite figured that out yet.

I will fly anything with wings or rotors but personally I enjoy using a variety of types as in the DH Dove, DH Vampire T.11, P51 Mustang, FA/18 Superhornet, Fokker VIIIb/3m, really?!, I fly the Capt Sim 737-100 when using the great addon in Flyteline. Used to enjoy the Beaver, Apache, Metroliner III, Spitfire, Westpac Dauphin. Still use the D180S float. Like the trike flying occasionally and the demoiselle is a cool kite for that. Have tried to find hang gliders, but no luck. For a laugh I will have a go at the Parafoil, and I dont mind the odd hot air balloon as well which I don't think I have anymore but will find it again one day, there would be many others of course such as the Lockheed Altair I am flapping about in the rally this gaar. I have improved the panels of most of these to suit, and play about with Scenery a bit and had a go at making AFCADS awhile back, painting the odd fuselage etc., now my time is spent flying and adding the odd bit of scenery here and there. Still enjoyin' FS9 vip_smithysoutbackadventuresandpotatopicking div

I like to fly the 4 motor piston engine types most of the time. My first choice is the KC-97L number 630. I like the Stratocruisers, Douglas DC-4, 6, 6B, and 7s. Also like the Connie's in all types. The B-36 is another one I like. In 2 engines, I like the Convair's, Martin's and the Curtiss C-46. I like to get the newer aircraft of these types and wring them out to see how they fly. I use others if needed but these I like the most. I DO NOT like jets.

Hey Smithy, After seeing your Altair in the gaar, I'm flying it in Tom's Carib. Island Hop. I was wondering, in your research on the Altar, if you had found anything on the speeds for lowering the gear and flaps. I'm using 120 kts. for the gear and 95 kts. for the flaps, but that's just a guess.
