ca.news.yahoo.com/s/capress/090407/world/us_cda_stolen_planeThis guy apparently wanted to get himself shot down, or suicide himself. He got a LONG way into the USA. Left from Thunder Bay, Ontario, and ended up west of Poplar Bluff (KPOF). Two F16s were following him along. There was a lot of favorable wind helping him along. I checked the ADDS weather site, and it showed 35k winds out of the north at 12,000'. I set up a flight this morning to recreate this trip. I set up the automix so I wouldn't have to babysit that, and the direct GPS route. Winds were set to 36 out of 002 degrees. I then set it to 4X so it wouldn't take all day. THEN, I turned on another computer and followed it along on Skyvector.com 's online sectional charts. I made it to KPOF with 35% fuel left! I could have flown a lot farther, but the winds were curving off to the east so I don't think it would have been realistic. I landed into that 36k wind, showing a ground speed of 45k needing 2000 rpms to stay on the glide slope, but I couldn't keep it under control on the ground. As soon as I turned my back to the wind I flipped over.
