I got an e-mail today from Norm Hancock over at DC-3 Airways. Please make an effort to sign up for this. DC-3 Airways pilots always make a good showing for our Great Aussie Air Rally. Information can be found at www.dc3airways.com then click on WR2009 on the top menu bar. Bill ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Hi Bill, It's amazing how quickly time passes but it is that time again! May I put my official hat on and extend my best wishes to you and all of our very good friends at Bluegrass Airlines and extend an invitation to enter the DC-3 Airways World Rally 2009. Once again we are following an old but fairly successful format and there will be ten flights chosen from around the world which we hope will provide a few interesting and mildly challenging moments. The rally proper begins on the 14th of November but the flights will be posted and available to fly from the 7th. My very best wishes Bill and I hope you will join us, Norm Hancock.

Got my number. Now to dust off the navigational skills, actually I seem to recall it was the fuel consumption that did for me last year.

Number 36, last year was my first DC3 Rally ,I had both fuel consumption, and time problems, and if it wasn't for the fact I had just finished a sailplane task in one area of the ALPS i would have been lost it is a good warm up , and rust remover

Bill I have been trying to sign up for the DC3WR2009 for the past week, no joy. As per instructions when I had not heard from them in three days I sent an email and have yet to hear back. I guess if I am not a member of their club I am not able to join ??/

Bud, You don't need to be a member of DCA to take part, they even let the old colonial forces participate - this will be my third. Check that their reply hasn't gone into your spam folder and also keep an eye on their roster list. You wouldn't be number 35 on there by any chance? Meantime I've had a squint at the flightplans amongst the goodies to be downloaded for the flights and it looks like the fuel flows are in line with the MAAM DC3 rather than the default. The MAAM DC-3 seems to use about 20% less fuel than the default one that comes with the Beaumont Bitzer mods and Norman's two panels from the DCA site. I know it is meant to be non-competitive, but I don't want to be too wide of the mark. Perhaps it is time to stop fretting and just get on with it in my MAAM DC3 and favourite Scottish Airlines early G-AGWS paint scheme.

Allan Yep by golly that is me on the roster list. Number 035. Everyone bring in the children and livestock for I'm going flying with the big boys.
Thanks a bunch for the heads-up.

Great Bud ,your next to me on the flight line ;D ,this will be my second try and from the flights looks like some interesting weather, one thing I had trouble with on the first one was not keeping an eye on winds aloft affecting time and fuel consumption. The best thing though ,I learned more about the DC-3 flight modes than I would have just flying from point A to B in fair weather. ;D Good Luck and have fun

Hey, Bud, I signed up for the DC3WR2009 today, should be getting the email soon. I'll probably fly my R4D in the DC-3c sim. It should be interesting, just starting to look at the flights.

Gosh - I must have been doing something right!
Anyone else notice that the excellent Captain Zlogg (WR119), who so enlivens GAAR forums, came FIRST?

Comrade Zlogg ! FIRST ! Must been using POPPIES secret drink and fuel formula in that DC-3 ;D The CAPT. IS GOOD , I will have to try some capitalistic strategy in the GAAR , maybe give him a copy of the health care bill that should throw him off his game

I have just recieved kommune-ique from Cousin Viktor from the KGB Airdroppers advance party waiting to cheer on Capitan Zloggeroffski and compatriat Proppellarvorsk. Babushka is reported to be 'over the moon' about the convincing win and the preparations for the celebrations continue on target. Slogg was quoted from behind the kettle after the rally to say that "...without the Kettle there would be know way he would enter let alone vin..." unquote Well done to the Airdroppers Team, a top win. With all the practice they had on the Sea of Japon during the Czars Birthday weekend, they deserve it.
cheers Sir Smithy ~ WR#068 (finished first 2 legs and retired)
