right here: store01.prostores.com/servlet/x-planestore/Detail?no=185Amazing detail, systems, checklist work, etc. Too bad I am terrible at helicopter flight! I've looked at many addons, but not too terribly serious about buying any of them. Most don't look good to me. Looks like old MS flight sim stuff. But this bad boy is a thing of beauty. What a wonderful cockpit to fly! Too bad I am terrible at helicopter flight! I still haven't reinstalled XPlane since I got Windows 7 reupped. Maybe it is time.

It's a nice-looking helicopter for sure. I have a payware model by Jason Chandler. All of my other ones are freeware. I like the Hughes 500D. The Bell 47 Pigling (no crew) is another freeware favorite. Anything Brett Sumpter has touched should be good in terms of flight dynamics. Regarding looks I don't miss anything as long as we're selecting from the latest version 9 helicopters. The freeware Eurocopter looks fine too.
Why did you lose X-Plane when you got Windows 7? I don't lose sims or personal files anymore since I always put them on a non-C drive. X-Plane writes nothing to the registry and will be fully intact and operational under any OS. Thus, it won't be broken by an OS upgrade. Just keep it off drive C and you won't lose it. Actually, it's a good idea to keep sims out of the old standard "C:\program files\" these days, at least under Vista with UAC enabled. Vista will want to block any writing to folders within the program files group.
When you put it back I'd advice you to update to the latest final version (9.4) before you set up your preferences. If you don't you'll have to enter the assignments once more when you decide to up the version. Quite a few interesting tweaks took place during version 3 and earlier aircraft may not work as intended. Thus, get the latest version and focus on v3.1+ downloads. The helicopter you consider to buy requires the latest version. Needless to say, all stock aircraft will be updated during any update and most freeware and payware creators update their aircraft to fit the latest sim version.
Unlike most games and sims X-Plane upgrades aren't fixes. This sim is really an ongoing project that keeps evolving into something more accurate in terms of dynamics and new parameters are being added.

The only reason I 'lost' my Xplane install is I'm kind of stubborn about how I run my computer. I keep it as clean and simple as possible, and if I start dual-booting, splitting up the drives, I just start getting... uncomfortable. When I change the OS, I wipe the drive completely and reinstall to the factory setup. It's more work than having an imaging system, or multiple drives or whatever, but I kind of like the work. It also keeps me in practice for when I go work on other peoples computers.
I must confess, I kind of like changing OS's. I used to use my main machine for testing Linux distributions and I changed a LOT. Sometimes more than once a day. But I now have this big machine specifically designated as the Windows Gaming Machine, and I don't do the Linux on it. I did start out on Vista, went to windows 7 beta, then windows 7 64 bit release candidate, then back to Vista, and now I'm back to the official Windows 7 release.
You're right of course. If I'd put my games on a different drive, my life would be simpler.

I bought the helicopter you mentioned a couple of months ago. I've got into another project myself--I'm converting a Super Puma from a military version into an offshore version. I was thinking of a simple repaint but ended up adding offshore sponsons and the wraparound flotation device up front. I'm using AC3D for modeling since that's the only 3D application I could make out. Blender was a handful. Brett Sumpter is currently fixing up the FDs.

Hans! Good to see ya. I'm actually digging around and loading up all my flight sim software, just for fun. Tom has been flying 2002, so I've been messing with that. I just repurchased FS9 off Ebay, and my x-plane is next. I'm going back in....
I get those XPlane addon emails every week or so. They're really improving.

There's a new Sundowner with an astoundingly beautiful panel. www.x-aviation.com/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=56The video I watched was a great display of the detail on the panel, but all the panning around in the interior of the aircraft was moving in on hurl-inducing. It's about twice too long! The exterior shots of most XPlane stuff is still missing the nice HQ details, but the panels are REALLY coming along.

Has anyone found a good DC-3 for XPlane? I've been flying 9.6 lately and it seems to have been improved - or maybe I'm improving. The scenery is a little bleak but the planes fly pretty good.

The only recent one (for v9.xx) that I'm aware of is the payware model by Heinz Dziurowitz. Regarding bleak scenery, provided you mean the overall hue or color saturation that can be modified by changing a number of the rendering settings. I've heard that Mac and Windows differ in how the color saturation comes out and that's why Windows users may find the Mac world a bit drab.
