Thanks Les, I've done as you suggested. I think we old 'uns tend to forget how memory-hungry modern programs can be. My first computer was the BIG version of the BBC one produced in UK. It had 32Kb (the standard one had 16Kb) and programs were loaded from cassette tape. I remember the first I got with a huge 1MB of memory. "What am I going to do with all that?" Anyway, it didn't help the crashes, although I think the thing runs a bit smoother. I thought there might be something in my computer that didn't like Andrew's program, so I set up a circuit at Jervis Bay. It still played up, but only by freezing for about half a second. Next I tried setting up at 40 miles out, without the GAAR program, but it still failed. I think there's something in there I will have to live with. Legs 1,3,4 and 5 were fine, so it could just be Jervis Bay. Time will tell.
Regards, Rattler
Amend this an hour or so later. I've just flown the first bit of leg 7 and returned to Jervis Bay, as a trial. Everything was normal, including the landing on 33. As an aside, why does every airfield in Oz seem to have a whacking great tree planted just short of the threshold?

Rattler,
The only fix I have found to the airport owners not maintaining a tree clear approach path is to scale back on the autogen scenery settings in MSFS.

Rattler, The only fix I have found to the airport owners not maintaining a tree clear approach path is to scale back on the autogen scenery settings in MSFS. Or, if you have the expertise, add an exclude file to knock out those pesky trees. (If you have AFX, it will allow you to add an exclude box to remove autogen).

The half a second freeze is probably due to FS9 or XP writing or reading necessary data from/to virtual RAM on your hard disk - this process takes time and the result is a short freeze in what your graphics card displays. Hmmm, how much more can I go???
I'm already running MSFS on a dedicated HDD on XP on a 3.0Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo, 3GB DDR (the effective maximum for 32 bit XP), NVidia GeForce 8800 GTS 512MB graphics card, 300GB HDD (178GB free) machine. I have now set the virtual memory setting so that the system manages the size of the Page File, but still experience the screen freeze and it's more like a couple of minutes as opposed to seconds.
As always, the only way is up. So, whilst it might not fix this problem currently experienced, it might justify the upgrade to Core 2 Extreme or Core 2 Quad CPU and the latest NVidia 2GB graphics card.

Hi there all together! My first impressions of this rallye 2010 are very intense and in a scenic landscape,.....breathtaking! I have made some power improvement at the engines, so my flight times are shorter, the fuel consumption higher and the weight too,...so lets see how I can handle this year.... Let me show you two pics of my wellknown "Flying Boxcar" as I round the Wilson Promontory Lighthouse ( actually my PC built it at the shore,....lol....) and the second from my shorttrip in leg 3 to the oilplatforms southern from Cape Conran a few miles ahead from YMCO.... hope my bird "takes " the mountains as well as the sea.... Thom and btw I could not resist to paint the wings with actual rallye tag and the front door with the rallyes sign......

I have a Boxcar too. With any load it could not handle these fields. But anything becomes a short field aircraft if you leave the payload home. I chose to fly the C-123 in this Rally and it has done a good job. It was made to do this stuff. The C-119 was made for long concrete runways.
If your target times are based on the old engines, better not use the new engines. If you do, get there early and loiter until you can get down close to each target time. You are penalized for any difference with the target time, positive or negative.
I also have some time in the late 1950's riding in the back of a C-119 and wearing a chute. That was no fun. At the time I was in love with just about any airplane. But not that one.

To GAAR Directors: Sorry... but I am unable to send PIPREPS... something went wrong and I get herror messages indicating Name/Pass Word is incorrect. correct e-mail is: Rovel01@aol.com..... GAAR-102.... would appreciate if the "power to be" can look into this and see what is wrong as I am stuck. Thank you Rodney Velarde

I don't know how you can stand waiting for a minute of two during pauses in FS9. Someone must have some ideas to remove the frustration. For comparison I am running 2 x 512 MB NVidia GeForce 8800M GTX video cards on my Dell XPS M1730 laptop, and combined with 3GB of RAM I am able to get quite a good performance out of Vista Ultimate and FSX; I also run the ORBX FTX Australian Expansion Pack. The Windows Experience index value shows up as 5.1. The graphics value comes in at 5.9 (top of the scale). Hence, FSX runs without pausing or stuttering of any kind and achieves a frame rate of 15-60. I have tweaked some of the sliders to get this smooth performance. I have also followed advice on tweaking FSX in the very technical article at the following address (I could not implement much of this) www.simforums.com/forums/forum_posts.asp?TID=29041Needless to say that I am very happy with this graphics performance. I should add that the 8800M GTX has burnt out twice over the two years that I have had the laptop. At over $1000 for a replacement unit ($800 through an extended warranty) it is not a cheap unit to run. NVidia and Dell claimed that the third card I have has been re-engineered to avoid the burn-out problem. We shall see. Enjoying the rally very much. Les

I can't tell you what it looks like because I haven't designed it yet. As soon as it is complete, I will display it.
