I've always flown GAAR over the years as a way to relax and enjoy a fantastic rally. I tend to not worry about scores, just fly the leg the best I can. However, I had to smile when I ran Leg 5, Mt. Hotham (YHOT) to Corryong (YCRG) this year. I had checked my Target Time before the flight which was 54.25. But I struggle with numbers and had actually forgotten the exact time during the flight. I knew it was 54.... err.. something. I always snap a screenshot on final and roll out so I can refer to them for PIREPS. So I just about died when I saw these numbers. No loitering or anything, just a great flight. On final with the ole' Catalina at YCRG. The time I couldn't remember.. 54.25 Still rolling out but we have dropped speed below 30 kts. and the timer has clocked our Leg time. 54.29 ;D Don't think I'll ever pull that off again! Also, sincerest thanks to all involved in running this rally. GAAR is just always a great run! Warmest regards, Mark Smith GAAR_113

Well done! I must confess I never look to see what my target time should be, otherwise it tempts me to get there quickly and then hover around until it's time to land. I'd rather find out how close I was once it's all over!

Thanks! I'm actually flying the PBY at basically a slow cruise setting very much like what I used in the Test Flight. Then following procedures at the destination field, which seems to be yielding excellent results. I'm basically shocked as past results and performance on my part have been rather dismal (but always fun). The PBY keeps me honest too. I run with the AC's "Realistic engine settings" so it's a bit of a handful at times. I've got a decent style for staying on top of the CAT settings, which are a spring-loaded affair drawing off the engine's heat, and can be rather finicky little guys as power settings change. Cheers! Mark

The Dove is a good beastie for hitting times. Basically, if I'm turning finals at 130 kts (flap limit) I can pick any speed between that and 76 kts at any time; it slows down very quickly. I've struck lucky twice, but I don't expect it to last. Mount Hotham Target time 53.14 Corryong Target time 41.48

Hi Chris! Thumbs up to a fellow PBY pilot. Rattler, wow that is just superb. I'm actually glad I missed by a bit. I think if I'd knocked down a number like yours, I'd have had a heart attack. Take care and have great flights! Mark GAAR_113
