'John Robertson Duigan and Reginald Charles Duigan built the first powered aeroplane, designed and constructed by Australians from Australian materials. John, an electrical engineer designed the plane and flew it for the first time on 16 th July, 1910 on his parents properety, "Spring Plains", in Mia Mia, central Victoria, which was managed by his brother Reginald. The centenary of this historic event will be celebrated in Mia Mia from 16 th - 18 th July, 2010.' (a quote from the poster for the event). An interesting account of the invention and development of The Duigan aeroplane in Australia as well as details of the centenary event can be found on the following web site: www.duigancentenaryofflight.org.au/ Les
