I'll bet. I was a tad late for that one. Maybe you want to check www.ratpatrolradio.com/I haven't navigated it much- but lots of news from original papers and music links. lr.

I was just a kid when the war was going on but I remember the radio newscast and the ration stamps.

You probably played "army" and cowboys and indians". Went to a rodeo, must have been barely 4 years old, and watched Gene Autry ride around the arena singing. Few days later my dad was talking to a friend of his and said, "... boy, that Gene Autry sings terrible". I immediately reached over and hit him in the leg yelling, "no he doesn't". lr.

I'm still pushing 50 from below (not by a whole lot) but I've always been into music of just about any kind.
I played Tuxedo Junction in the jazz band in high school (on drums at the time), and I actually have it on a couple of things called "records" (circular pieces of black vinyl on which music may be stored).
I also grew up not very far from where Erskine Hawkins WROTE it (Downtown Ensley AL).
Yes I have played "army","cowboys and indians" and a host of other politically incorrect games.
Here's an interesting music item: -My Dad was in WWII (Army in Europe) -My Brother was in Vietnam -I did 12 years in the Air Force (84 to 96) then became a civilian contractor
For some reason I prefer the music from those 3 periods (40's, 60's and 80's) to any other pop music. Tuxedo Junction makes me think "C-47" Paint it Black = UH-1 (Huey) 99 Red Balloons = UH-60 (Blackhawk)
It's strange how music triggers memories.
Interesting post... KC
