I'd seen Realair's "spinnable" 172 before, but at the time I was FS9 deprived. I'd sold it and was pure FSX-ing. Now that I'm back to dual FS-ing, I went back and downloaded the RealAir version.
It's actually an update for the FS9 stock 172, which is fine. But you have to copy the 172 folder, remove three folders from it, rename it, and unzip the RealAir file into the copied folder. Then it's a go.
It seemed to have a much more realistic acceleration to me. On the ground, the stock 172 will go if I touch the throttle. RA made theirs to have to have a little extra to get rolling. They also recommended a little different takeoff trim than stock. Once launched it seemed to handle much nicer than the stock 172 as well. The turning felt a little more real to me as well as the rotation about the pitch axis. Just seemed better.
I tried the spinning, such that it is. I never got to do any spin training in a real 172, so I cannot vouch for any realism here, but it sure reacted. It seemed to come OUT of the spin rather violently. Or suddenly.
I tried the slipping. I intentionally came in way too high on approach and slid it in. YEA! All kinds of slip, and nicely controllable. I could durn near come in sideways! I enjoyed that aspect of the flight dynamics immensely!
As far as I can tell, it's a big improvement on the stock flight dynamics. It has a heavier feel, maybe a slower roll? Just not as jittery. Handles more steady. I'm out of words to describe.
It's worth checking out for those of y'all that have not. I'm not crazy about the weird purple paint job, but whatever. The text on the side of the fuselage got messed up. The right side of the airplane is correct, but the left side is mirror-image reversed.
