Todays flight was from Veracruz to Mexico City. Preflight planning indicated an 18,500 ' cruise altitude. Didn't sound like much fun for a non-pressurized prop-liner that climbs at 700 fpm. Turned on the GPS and clicked on the terrain button, and an alternate route presented itself. Departing MMVR Veracruz Waypoint over MMOL Cordoba at about 9,500' Cruise altitude of 10,500' between Cordoba and Tehuacan Highest ridge was at 9,515' Mount Pico de Orizaba in background. (highest point in Mexico - 18,490') Waypoint over MMHC Tehuacan 25nm east of CUA Mount Popocateptl Volcano north of course 10nm east of CUA turned north toward PB306 14nm south of PB306 turned west direct to D220H and began descent to 9,000' Downwind for MMMX RW5R From D220H flew to MW and then ILS RW5R Final for RW5R Mexico City 12knot crosswind.
