I'm using Tom's digital RPM gauge in an Auster taildragger. It works fine, but displays in red with a negative sign, I suppose because the prop is going the 'wrong' way. There I am, crusing along nicely at minus 2200 rpm. I opened the gauge, but could not see any obvious place to insert a multiplier of minus one.
I can live with this, but if anyone knows of a left-handed digital rpm gauge, or how to insert a multiplier, I would appreciate it.
Meanwhile, I will have a look at AIRCRAFT CFG to see if there is some engine-direction parameter. (Just thought of that...)

I think it is best if you just live with the red numbers. That engine just plain runs backward. If you want to fly it, live with the red numbers.
Here is a line that can be put into the gauge code that I think would fix the problem.
<String>%(-1 (A:General Eng1 RPM, revolutions per minute) *)%!5.0f!</String>
But I cannot be sure. I don't have a panel in which I can test this. There may be a space in the wrong place. these gauges always need testing. That's why I advocate living with red numbers.
Alternatively, if you want to be real brave, try changing the gt to an lt in the line that starts with
"<Text X="40" Y="14" Bright="

Thanks Tom I will try the code you suggest. If that does not work, then I thought I might reverse the color codes, and just put up with the minus sign. It will take a couple of days, but I will let y ou know. Sorry about the duplicate message, this forum reacts oddly sometimes to the return key which is why there are no paragraphs here. DD

That's what the gt and lt stuff does. Yet another way to do it is to remove the ! in the same line. It is a negation operator. Be sure to remove the space a head of it.

Well swapping in an LT for the GT did the trick, colorwise. I can easily live with the minus sign, at least the rev count is a cheery blue. I will fool with the bang operator and space at some point, but it may be awhile.
IRONICALLY, the Auster I am flying, which gives the minus RPM count, is a variant with an American Lycoming engine and right-hand prop (the J5V). Apparently the software is English although the drive train being modeled is not. The model clearly shows a right-hand prop, and pics of the real thing on the net show the same. Live and learn. But it's a great model and I am very happy to have it.
I know I was raving about the Aiglet, and I do think it is a fine model too. But before I got around to trying to digitize the Aiglet tach, I felt the need for something more simple and basic, so I went for the J5V. It's old, it's slow, it's delightful. It is very easy to get under the bridges. Now that my computer has decided to allow me to see instant replay (for a long while I was not allowed), I find I have survived every bridge episode (at least since I got to replay them).
BTW, I do not use the mini-panel to fly anymore. In the J5V I have put all the switches, the parking break, fuel selector, and whatnot on the mini-panel. Easy to get to, and a cleaner look in the cockpit. (I know, not so real,,,,,)
