The Terrafugia Flying Car is almost ready for production. But I would not hold my breath. The cost is $250,000. Here is some more info: www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/07/09/terrafugia-transition-flying-car_n_893402.html#s305568It flies with a payload of 330 lb - almost practical. It can be driven on roads but looks like the slightest fender bender would be a "wing bender" with significant cost. The driver appears to have some "blind spots" on the road. There are very few areas where takeoff from a road would be feasible because of dangerous overhead wires. So you are left with filling the garage with this strange thing and driving to and from the airport and trying not to scratch the paint.

And can you imagine the hassles trying to go from the road to the operational area of most airports. I agree it is a very fragile gadget to drive in road traffic situations, the worries alone of keeping it undamaged make it a liability. Of course for our BGA members with unlimited cash it is a wonderful toy and I am looking forward to a "Top Gear" report.

Well, let's see. What's the mileage? Does it use reular or premium? or Avgas? I'd like my VW mechanic to keep up with the maintenance on it. I suppose my wife could use it to to go to the store for groceries- she has a drivers license. Of course, I'd tell her not to drive it off of the ground if there were dangerous overhead wires, just if there were regular overhead wires. Oh yeah, how is it on tires? ;D lou.
