I usually try to get RW near hurricanes. It gives me interesting flight problems. But I can't get any RW data with this storm. I get data errors. It's a bit early as the most interesting winds are off shore. But Hilton Head is getting some strong winds right now. I am disappointed to miss them. We will want to try as the storm gets farther north where more of it will be covered by airport data. I think now part of the problem is that a large number of people are trying to go online for info and data.

Did you have any luck yet? I was thinking about doing a little flying about in the N.E. this evening. I'm awfully busy, but I need to fly....

The short answer is "No, I did not get RW from the hurricane." Unfortunately, my difficulty in downloading weather seems to have had another cause, something related to my cable connection. For a month my cable from a block down the street on the far side was laying on the surface in the gutter and then crossing the road in front of my house (not toward my house) at a busy intersection where tire friction dragged it around. At the same time Hurricane Irene messed up the East Coast, that cable started failing rather strangely. The cable supplies my phone, HDTV and broadband Internet. It was cut three weeks ago by a crew filling a small sinkhole under the street. That suddenly knocked out our phone, TV and Internet for several hours. This recent problem showed only on our Internet. TV and phone worked fine!
I son Craig has the same type of Internet connection two blocks the other way and he had no problem. My Internet began failing a bit more yesterday and the day before. At first it was just slow. Then it would come and go. I would connect and then lose the signal. My email was good yesterday morning as I received and answered an email. Then I began to get notices that my pop.3 could not be located. Last night at 10 pm neither Internet nor Email worked at all. I set up a total virus scan on my system which took all night. This morning at 5:40am the scan was complete and listed no found bugs. But everything worked and has continued to work! I checked outside after the sun was full up and traced the path where the cable had lain. It was nowhere to be seen. Evidently they buried it over night!?!! Anyway, it works now.
Now there is no wind.
