FS won't open. Two windows open in succession naming controls.dll and facilities.dll. The usual " do want want to report..." comes on, then FS closes. I've done nthing new to FS since yesterday's last flight. Anybody know what could be going on? lr.

Hope it doesn't sound daft, but have you shut the machine down completely and rebooted?

Well, by golly, Allan, you know what they say in the big ones, "That's why there're two of us sittin' up here." You are a gentleman and a scholar, and your generosity is only exceeded by your good looks! Thank you so much! lr.

Don't you love flakey PCs! Been there, got the T-shirt.
In fact my PC is playing up so much at the moment that I am thinking about doing a re-install of the operating system, and then all the flightsim bits and pieces, so it may wait until the September Rally is out of the way.
Sometimes, if you just do a restart the memory does not totally degrade before the reboot. Closing down and letting everything stop for 30 seconds should usually do the trick.

Well, I'm sorry to hear you are going to have to re-install from scratch. That's a real job. I'm wondering if you could create a second drive, do the regular install, and then over time, or if necessary later, do a second install on the other drive. However, I've only had to do one or two re-installs since going to Windows XP. The last time it happened, 3 years ago, I actually quit FS- the install was too time consuming, especially finalizing it all with the keys and codes for add-on payware. But, after a few months, I had to start back again. Now, I try to get people not to start FS because of the addiction! Thanks for the info! lr.

Allen, it sounds like your machine could be having heat problems. Is that possible? I experienced similar things on this laptop before I started using extra fans to keep it cool. I have not seen a recurrence of the problems. I would check this possibility before doing any major work. My son Scott told me he sees a lot of heat problems in various types of computers. I know when I was working for the Army they forced us to keep computers in cool rooms. I suspect that today when we add memory chips and use exceptional CPU's, there is considerable potential for heat build-up inside a case.
Today I have noticed that this computer runs hotter with FS than with other programs.

Thanks Tom, I have opened it up and given it a de-fluff, but it could be temperature issues. The PC sits in a corner so ventilation is not the best even in these cool Northern climes. It has alos been suggested that the power supply unit is a potential source of problems if the voltage is not kept stable enough.
