I've just noticed the announcement on flightsim that the DCA World Rally 2011 will take place from 29th October to the end of November. They always support our events, and it is always an entertaining and educational series of flights, so I encourage you to participate. Details of the flights are not yet available, but registration is open. They must remember me, as going to the forum link showed the message that I was permanently banned! Must pay my bar bill this time.....

I have found some of those folks to be somewhat humorless. Someone there must have misunderstood a remark you made. I have banned myself from their site. Their navigation methods are a bit too circuitous for me.

The reason is probably more prosaic than virtual unpaid bar bills, their forum is now locked to outsiders due to spam issues that they had earlier in the year.
So the lockout is probably until such time as they set up the forum for the rally itself, and protect it from linking to their main forum.

I've seen that before. In Germany some of the bars don't want any "foriners in thar", so they put a sign outside that says "Members Only." (the sign is in English???) lr.

Well the forum opened up and promptly the spambots moved in. So we should consider ourselves lucky - for now.

Some Forums (Like the CBS television forums) have gone to allowing only members of Facebook to join the Forum. It eliminates spambots, requires real names, and gives access to a little more info about members.

I've never been much into "Big Brother." I don't know how a person could give up any more privacy once they opened up to Facebook. lr.

I tried to make this easy by showing exactly what you would see if you clicked on my photo in one of these NCIS Blog comments. Instead to see it go here: www.cbs.com/shows/ncis/insiders_blog/67383/and you will find two comments by me. Note that they attribute the comments to "Tom Goodrick of University of Minnesota Twin Cities." I don't mind that but the University might take exception so I tried to get facebook to change that to "Retired Engineer" but they have not done it. The first section of personal background info is "school graduated from". That's where they got University of Minnesota. I even put 1966 thinking they would realize it has little relevance to today. I have seen similar attributions and thought the people were Drama or English Teachers. So you are welcome to look around on my background pages. I keep any personal stuff hidden. I don't mind telling my school name or where I worked, etc. I refuse to name a home town because I have none. I lived one place 10 years since birth (left in 1953 not back since 1961 when I played in the band hired for the prom), another 4 years, another 4 years, another 6 years, another 3 years, another 19 years and this last place 22 years. I do name that place (Madison) because it is where I live now. (No street address). I see no reason to bother. Note my photo shows the full beard I had 5 years ago. I had to cut it off fore heart surgery but I have gotten tired of scaping the face so it is coming back. But it is snowy white now. Seriously, I did not like the idea of using facebook for the privacy reason. But it is not really giving away any secrets I care about. Here it was handy because i had no extra work when joining the Forums for the shows "Criminal Minds", "Mentalist", "Unforgettable", and "Person of Interest." All the writers of these shows need a little friendly advice now and then! This uses a " social networking site" but if you are anti-social like me, it still works. I did just have a 50th HS class reunion so there are a lot of "friends" out there.

Well I only joined facebook in the mistaken belief that I needed to for access to news items from flightglobal. I then left it untouched for ages until my daughter and some of the girls in the office decided that this oldie needed to be "friended". Now I see what they get up to but cannot build up the interest to use it myself.
Looking at the DCA forum over the last few days has been a scary experience for the apparent dross being dumped on them. Perhaps once the flights become available the forum will fill up with genuine posts.
While I'm about, gmail just demanded my date of birth to let me see emails. I am now 110 years old, so kindly speak up when responding to any posts of mine.
File under "None of their d*mn business".

Tom, Al, I hear you loud and clear. (don't worry, I really don't- I'm just reading it). The privacy thing is your computer- not what "Facebook" says. Your computer is an open book. I think everyone knows that. What's in your computer that you don't want anyone to know? Maybe nothing. I might have a thing or two I'd prefer some people not to know, but if they do, they do. It's the principle of personal rights and privacy. I might be a preverted six maniac, I might be a virgin. It's nobody's business. It's between me and my chosen- not purchased- mate (who happens to be my wife- lawfully married- me to her and her to me- not somebody else.)
Facebook? Great business for many- including those who buy the info that you put into your computer. What I openly don't like is that I get emails, saying, "You have an invitation from Angie Jolie to join Facebook." I asked her, and several others, about this invitaion and they vehemently denied sending me any such email. Facebook sends these emails because those people are in facebook, therefore facebook knows we have regular email contact.
So, well, I forgot. Al, do you spend more time philosophising about things, rather than doing?
In the meantime, keep itlow and slow. lou.

HEY, AL, I HOPE YOU CAN HEAR THIS. THE ONLY THING I CAN GET ONE THE DCA PAGE ARE THE <<< ITEMS. AS SOON AS I PUT THE MOUSE POINTER ON ANY MENU ITEM I GET A JAVA SCRIPT ERROR. I CAN'T SEE ANY WAY TO DOWN LOAD THE FLIGHT FILES. AM I DOING SOMETHING WRONG?

Now I have that problem, well the one with DCA (we won't mention all the rest...), from my work laptop.
If you cannot register I suggest dropping an email to:
"dcaDOTapsDOTforumATcomcastDOTnet"
If all else fails I could send you the flight details once they come up.
The flight dates are:
Flight Number Start Date End Date Flight 1............................. 29 October 31 October Flight 2............................. 1 November 3 November Flight 3............................. 4 November 6 November Flight 4............................. 7 November 9 November Flight 5............................. 10 November 12 November Flight 6............................. 13 November 15 November Flight 7............................. 16 November 18 November Flight 8............................. 19 November 21 November Flight 9............................. 22 November 24 November Flight 10........................... 25 November 27 November
Quote: "...the PIREP for each flight must be received before midnight UTC on the closing date for each flight. Whatever your choice, the very final PIREP must be submitted before midnight UTC on the 27th of November, to be included in the final World Rally 2011 calculations."
As I type this there are 14 spam topics on the forum. So that much you are not missing!

Hope this helps.

Brett, Thanks from me as well. I've done the last few rallies and would have been disapointed if I couldn't put in a showing this year. Got it working and submitted. Now we'll see how well I do.
