Leg 9 Startup at Coconut and as full power as possible....short runway, hmmmmmmm .... a splash would not be an option.... deep sigh,...the speed was "just" enough for take off gear up..... nearly a castaway island,....this coco - nutshell... along the coastline aproaching the YLHR NDB Lockhart River, crossing the airfield....some friends down there??? on final touch down...in a second.... meanwhile parking position throwing out all, what is not longer needed.... changing parking position to do a favour for a friend.... this old truck needs a ride to Cooktown,....shouldn't be a problem perfectly fitting into my boxcar....that's what it was made for

mmmhh... getting behind a bit... That Boxcar is way ahead ! Anyway, here's leg 8.climbing away from Morehead. Crossing the Mai Kussa river. The prescribed fuel stop at Saibai Island. Made a bit too long landing, and now stepping on the brakes... With a full fuel load, lining up. Slow climb with all that fuel! Extending the downwind in the pattern at Coconut. A GAAR DC-3 is "number one". ..our turn. Looks like an aircraft carrier from up here ! I remember landing here before with a DC-5 during another GAAR. Finals. More competition behind me. Shutting down.

Departing Tububil, and it's raining. Approaching Morehead, and it's still raining. To quote Snoopy, from "Peanuts". "I smell a wet pilot"

A few shots taken on the rally so far. Final approach to Murray Island with freight Landed on the island with not much land to spare taking off early morning from Port Moresby with 24000 pound of freight for remote communities One of Andrews unique touch, cringe, and go's

Final leg 10: Last leg, last take-off. Cape Direction in the distance. Over Prince Charlotte Bay. Flinders Group coming in sight. Cape Melville. Glinstering wings over Queensland. It's going to be a night landing for slower GAAR aircraft for sure. In good GAAR-tradition, preparing a buzz-job for the last destination airfield... ;D ..coming in... .. and going out. Allways fun! Reducing power, bleeding off speed now and turning downwind. The last meters for my trusty Invader. Great Warbird and fine glider too !!

Glad I flew a Cessna 170B, was easier to fit my wings through the valley an passes than those big Cooney Birds and multi - engine jobs

A final few shots Lockhart River (?). Must be the dry season. Fill 'er up, check the oils and clean the windscreens please. Heading for Cooktown, and it's getting kinda dark. Final landing at Cooktown. Thanks, Andrew, for probably the most challenging GAAR to date. Lokking forward to next year.
