Hi,
Well, just completed one of the toughest GAAR's I can remember! The DC3 is a great plane but does not like climbing over high mountains.
I guess I asked this last time and I apologise in advance for raising it again - but will someone be doing Certificates this year? I probably won't be in the running because my times were pretty rubbish this time around - but, hey the trip was fantastic!
If no one is up to doing it, I'll certainly have a go at designing something.
Let me know if we have a Certificate for this year!
best regards,
Lee James British Airways Virtual

Leg 5 alone deserves a certificate. My DHC-2 Beaver was huff'in around those mountains..... Enjoyed every minute of it. ;D

Lee,
Thanks for the offer. In past years, whilst it has been my intention to issue certificates, my real world life conspired against me.
As the "staff" budget for the GAAR is extremely small (we spend it all on the fireworks), rather than disappoint or make hollow promises, I have stopped committing to issuing certificates. Previous certificates where also issued on the basis of performance and this only served to focus attention on what the GAAR is NOT about.
Unfortunately, I have a lot happening at the moment (one of the reasons I personally haven't flown in this year's GAAR) and cannot commit to producing the certificates.
I will email you separately with some details and you can then decide if you want to go ahead with producing the certificates.
Cheers Andrew

How about making the certificates available to all the folks that completed all the flights. Downloadable and printable to those that would like them. The link could be provided by replying to the last PIREP email.
Never saw one so I don't know what they normally look like(to make this years) but I do have a Box.net account to store it in if needed.I also have a son that is a graphic designer that could figure something out, if I could see a few of the past ones.

Brett,
Thank you for the offer also. I have pretty much stuck with a standard format in the past.
The work is really in coordinating names, creating each individual certificate and emailing them out.
I will also email you the template and we can both liaise with Lee to agree on the outcome.
Cheers Andrew

Andrew,
I have the Certificates from the last few years so doing one up for the Rally finishers for this year's event would not be a problem. I'd be happy to have a go at it.
What I DO need is the "definitions" as to what constitutes a GOLD, SILVER and BRONZE award (I believe last year also included the PLATIMUM award as the top one - not sure of you want to stick to the three categories this year).
If you can let me know what scores achieve which award and then allow me the email list of the completed competitors, that would be fine - I'll happily work on the Certs and then get them out to each finisher.
Of course, I'm fully aware of the requirments of data protection (as a Board member of British Airways Virtual I'm bound by the requirements of the UK Data Protection Act 1998) and would therefore ask anyone who does NOT want their email address and name shared with me, to post here.
With regard to the above, I undertake to delete ALL email and name references to this rally and its competitors after I complete the Certificate work.
Let me know if this is ok Andrew.
Regards,
Lee James Member of the Board British Airways Virtual
