Hi guys, my name is Ian and come from Aus and live near YPEC and I have been flying on & off under the Bluegrass banner and have been quietly reading the posts for some time now and thought it time to say gday. I keep returning to Bluerass Airlines as I enjoy the older aircraft plus the routes, especially the Aussie ones. My favorite aircraft is the MAAM DC3, which I might add is hard to master but enjoyable all the same.
Presently I am setting up some flight pans to use under VATSIM here in Aus and fly under the callsign Bluegrass63. Its gets interesting flying online in a vintage aircraft where you have to really fly and not just turn dials as on the modern planes.
Well thats a bit about it from one of your fellow flight simmers and enjoy your flying.
Ian

Gooday Ian, I live up the road a bit and have flown out of YPEC in a Twotter a few years back before the operators moved out. Great spot, and I have enjoyed a bit of sailing on the lake too. Still get to Newcastle now and then.

Thanks guys for the welcome.
I had to look up where the state of Idaho is so at least I knew where the big hello was coming from and to my surprise its right next to Oregon which is only 1 of 2 places I have been to in the USA. I also noticed you are close to Pappy Boyington field. At present we are having the reruns of Baa Baa Blacksheep over here so its enjoyable to see those corsairs flying with the odd C-47 thrown in for good measure! Besides flying the old machines I also like warbirds and airshows.
And that brings me to google maps again to find Flaxton. What a nice bit of Aus in live in Ed up near the Malaney ranges. I too have flown in the Twotter many times and what a beautiful flight it is on a sunny day down the coast into Syd. Belmont airport is still there but has been sold to developers but there is hope that the owners of Wanervale Airport will still buy it for GA.
Cheers Ian

Hi Ian, I hope you are enjoying the Blacksheep, I watched them all "a few years ago". You mentioned Pappy Boyington field, you may want to check out my web site for our 5th anniversary celebration of Pappy Boyington Field (it used to be Coeur d'Alene Air Terminal). I am NOT a web designer, that's for sure. www.heritagewings.comThere is a much prettier site for the Air Racing League at: heritagewingscda.com

I echo those sentiments David. And Allen, if that B61 Mack is on the tarmac it will be a drawcard for the likes of me, they don't get off the ground too well but but they sure do their job. I'll take a ride in the B-25 anytime. Ed

G'day Ian, and welcome to the mob. Although I'm a member of the Australian Division, I'm actually a POM, and have never been nearer to Oz in real life than Northern Italy. I have a few relations (mostly former "£10 poms" and their descendants) out there, mostly in Sydney. I second David's comments about the DC-3 Airways and Muttley's Hangar Rallies - the former are fairly exacting, and the latter can be very scarey! Our own GAAR is pretty good, too.
I live in Southampton UK - we do get some interesting traffic but it's mostly Flybe's Dash 8 Q400s and Aurigny's ancient and noisy Trislanders - the latter have just been upgraded with EGNOS GPS landing aids to enable them to get into Alderney in foggy conditions .

Thanks David & John. Yes I competed in 2008 version of the GAAR and had a ball but my nav skills aren't that good so I skipped out on the others. I know its a feeble excuse but I am sticking with it! John if you run FSX then load up the Orbx scenery and see what OZ really looks like. I know about the 10 pound poms but my descendants were given free passage!!!! Allen - I would love to see your local airshow but alas it wasn't included in this years budget so I might have to give it a miss. But my son and I are planning to go to our big one early next near Melbourne. Its the Australian International Airshow @ Avalon. They say it the biggest in the southern part of the world and is held every 2 years. Ian ;D

A wee bit fierce on the brakes? Perhaps you need a DC-4 (or a Trislander if you're a 3-prop enthusiast).
I know about free passage to Oz - we have "Botany Bay Road" and "Spike Island" as local placenames. ;D
Haven't got FSX yet, but hope to have it (and a suitable PC) soon, especially as I won some FSX add-on software in the MEBAR.

I went to the first Avalon show and I bought a Photographer's Pass, seems these have vanished. For a few extra bucks you got a visible pass which enabled you to go almost anywhere on the field. A mini bus or two were circulating constantly for photographers' exclusive use so that mobility was easy. An insight for you, a number of us were requested to move off the threshold of Rwy 18 because a departing C5A skipper was worried that he was going to blow us away! Try that now !!!

Well Ian, your Melbourne show probably won't be in my next year's budget either. But boy! would I love to visit Oz. You mentioned you and your son going. That brings back memories. In the late 90s when I was working in Orange Co., CA and my son was getting his masters we used to go every year to El Toro, Miramar and Chino. Miramar and Chino were far enough out in the boonies that traffic was not a problem. El Toro was a different matter and we developed an exit strategy. About 20 minutes before the Blue Angels took off ( they always took off to the north) we would head to the north end of the field. Just off the field was a McDonalds with a grassy knoll on the south side. Nearby was the parking area where we always managed to park. So we would buy a Big Mack and a shake and lie back on the grass. When the Blue Angels took off they passed right over us. We could see, hear and FEEL them as they went over. WOW. Then we would watch the rest of their show and then run for the car and beat the crowd to the freeway.
