Just noticed that I've not posted a PIREP for nearly a couple of months, and that as (a) my laptop has to go away due to an overheating problem (b) the re-enactment season is getting busy, I probably won't be getting any flying in for a few more weeks. I therefore request an indefinite leave of absence.

No problem, enjoy your summer. A re-enactment of Bleriot crossing the channel would be interesting, but could be damp.
After a period without pireps the system shows "inactive", simply put in a pirep and it changes that back automatically.

Bleriot's a bit modern for me, though we've had a couple of Da Vinci-ish birdmen, and also a copy of the Da Vinci "screw" helicopter - the builders of the latter claim to have achieved VTOL (if so, their cruise height couldn't have been more than about 1/16"). I'm mainly doing 16th century heraldry and 16th-18th century piracy these days, though we have a new group of US 1812 war privateers. Any USN veterans on this forum might like to know that the remains of the USS Chesapeake (now the Chesapeake Mill at Wickham, Hants), had a plaque unveiled last Saturday to commemorate the 200th anniversary of her capture by HMS Shannon. www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-hampshire-22733199
