I recently get home from Africa, more precisely: from the northern Part of Namibia - like Damara- and Kaokoland on the border to Angola. During my journey i past remote land and some very strange airstrips in the desert. Nothing looks like an real airfield, just sand and a windsock and maybe some rotten tyres to mark the landingstrip. Well then, why not design some of these airstrips for my FSX? Here is the result: Doing some development aid by air in transporting fresh eggs, fish and veggies from one Doro Nawas to Palmwag in Namibia. Doro Nawas, where the pretty folk is going for safari or flying in from Windhoek, as the road is very long and rough - and it's very hot too! I just finished loading my airplane for my 30 minutes flight north to Palmwag. In a dustcloud the enginge comes alive - - and soon later - ready ro take off! So then - lets go!! The Kaokoland area extends south-north from the Hoanib river to the Kunene river that also marks the border between Namibia and Angola. It is largely mountainous, with the northern Baynes Mountains reaching the maximum elevation at 2039 m. Other notable mountain ranges of Kaokoland include the Otjihipa Mountains and the Hartmann Mountains. Time to relax! The land is generally dry and rocky, especially to the south, where it borders on the Namib Desert; nevertheless, it has several rivers as well as falls. Kaokoland is one of the wildest regions of Southern Africa, with very few roads and structures. The only road that is accessible to non-4WD vehicles is that connecting Sesfontein and Opuwo. Time flies, already on a short final Rwy 23 at Palmwag. Landing, a good standard but not very good! The cargo is still relishable.. .. and for me it's end of the work day!
